Norwegian Air "World's Best Long Haul, Low-Cost Airline" will begin their new route to Madrid Spain (MAD) from New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX) beginning the end of September. Launch fares are $230 one-way. Return fare may be slightly higher.

Travel Availability JFK for $446 RT, Direct on 787 Dreamliner
Departs JFK: Sept 18, 20 25, 27; Oct 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25
Returns: Sept 26; Oct 24; (other return dates available for about $15 more)

Travel Availability LAX for $505 RT, Direct on 787 Dreamliner
Departs LAX: Sept 24, 26, 30; Oct 1, 3, 7, 8, 10, 14, 15, 17, 21, 22, 24
Returns: any Monday, Wednesday or Friday in October

Pretty poor deal. A quick Google flights search shows multiple cheaper options on better airlines.

probably true since airlines are more competitive these days but this direct LAX-MAD flight only has one non-stop competition from Iberia (high season only) which I'm sure is more than these fares.
