Where are all the tax preparation deals this year?

Is it my imagination, or have the usual discounts on TaxAct/Turbotax been nonexistent this year? What's up with that?

EDIT: nm I guess it's just TaxAct, who apparently have new ownership and have decided to try to bone everyone this year.

Thanks, H&R hasn't really been on my radar before, but with the TaxAct shenanigans this year I guess I'll be giving it a try.

What shenanigans? I'm genuinely curious.

Just heard an ad during a podcast, 25% off TaxAct [taxact.com]. But I'm also curious what shenanigans are going on.

EDIT - link doesn't seem to work, but maybe it's because I already clicked it. It's www.taxact.com/invisible

I e-filed my CA state and federal taxes for zero dollars last year with Taxact. In the past 12-13 years I don't recall paying more than $20 with them, it was usually around $12 for both efiles. This year I purchased TurboTax from Costco. I'll return it if they offer a deal. Otherwise I'm going to start using it. I only put up with the clunky 1990s interface bc of the price.

Perhaps shenanigans is the wrong word... basically they aren't offering the deals they previously have.

Last year's $10 TaxAct deal was in March so I'm waiting again.

I entered the link in an incognito window and the discount showed up. The price is $22.46 for federal, $27.75 for state. Not a great deal at all but still better than full sticker price.

I did not know Taxact was sold : they were part of a sleazy conglomerate.

Anyway... they had Ads around last TG for $15... for online only ...the download is $66.95 right now: That way they can keep you depending on them.
Starting with 2018 tax, any halfway smart person can do without any Tax app.
Around Xmas time, I bought H&R - Premium - boxed/mailed - for $30 from NewEgg ($60 with 50% off).
What a mistake: It is very confusing ... and not very smart.

Ended up getting H&R Premium for $15. We'll see how that goes. I've used TA for years but it's always been fairly underwhelming in quality.

Actually it was $0 for me(Fed+state e-filed) as another user mentioned. Someone posted a link last year to that free deal that lasted only few hours. Never paid more than $12 for Taxact for years. My tax is simple, so I'll go for that $10 H&R deal.
