Disappointed so far

2 10 January 23, 2018 at 12:23 PM
I am new to Slickdeals, but so far I have been disappointed. A great deal came up today, I jumped on it right away. But in the short time it took me to go to the site and put in my info with promo codes, it had expired. Do I need to be able to purchase in a few minutes? Because, that is, literally, what I did and it wasn't fast enough. Is this common?

There is a short delay when the deal is posted and when you get your alerts. This could be as little as 5min - 30min depending on server/network load and the platform (mobile, desktop, email). Average time is around 10mins. Recent weeks, I've seen RSS feed with delay of 3 hrs for deal updates. Though that seems tobe fixed today, or it could be on and off.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed.
If you are referring to this deal https://slickdeals.net/f/11192111-cowin-e-7-active-noise-cancelling-wireless-bluetooth-headphones-11-free-shipping it went OOS within 20 minutes of posting, came back for a bit then expired again quickly.

Not all threads/deals do that but they can. We have no control over a merchant's inventory, how many people buy it up quickly nor how quickly one might fix a price mistake when they happen. We all try to be quick in getting our orders place for just those reasons.
The hotter the deal the quicker it sells out, usually. This one went extremely fast though.

1) How are you "new" if you've been here since 2014?

2) SD is simply a forum of community submitted deals. People can submit deals the second they happen, 7 days after they start or never. I've gotten plenty of deals that never got posted on SD. So....... I don't know what you are expecting.

The staff of this website have let us all down. Rather than prioritize our existing community getting deals, they throw all their resources into populating the site with as many people as possible. As a result, instead of our community getting fair deals like we used to, tens of thousands of people rush onto every deal posted and destroy it in minutes. The common user doesn't have a chance, because the common user isn't the priority anymore. Money is.

Thank the admin and the other moderators for this. You can tell they lost sight of the true goal of SlickDeals when they won't even restrict the forum to registered users view only (without even closing registration).

1. SD would stagnate without new users.

2. More people means more deals get posted (and hopefully decent ones)

3. If SD had restricted this site to only registered users say in maybe 2013 or earlier, then you yourself would likely not be a user now because you would not have been able to see the deals to begin with. Restricting the site is not the right way to go imho.

Widgit, had that been the case in 2013 I would have accepted that and found another way to access the site. The direction that SlickDeals has gone has meant that users just like marranzino have found themselves missing almost every deal because there are too many of those "more people posting more deals." If you take a poll I can guarantee you that the majority of people on this site would prefer fewer people posting actually achievable deals rather than more people posting instantly vanishing deals (these are very broad terms, of course).

I don't want SlickDeals to fail. If it loses members, by all means post advertisements all over the internet. But at this time there are more than enough members seeing advertisements and using referrals to fund it.

Bottom line, consider the users of this site that made SlickDeals what it is. If they think it's better to consolidate, close off the forum to unregistered users, then it's strongly worth considering.

Most of the deals (great or not) comes from Shills or New Members. If you look at the FP, large amount of those deals came from Newbies, Rep Wholes, or Shills. Older members have hoarded enough crap over the years to stop hunting for deals. Closing off the forum means they would migrate to other sites which would take longer to get reposted here increasing the delay response time per deal.

It really comes down to having quality deals with a large delay in alerts or mass junk spam with short delayed alerts. The first requires monitoring multiple deal sites. The second, requires aggressive filtering and de-shilling.

Because of SD's aggressive approach towards amazon 3rd party sellers who don't meet the "vetting proce$$", I'm already seeing their codes being posted on other deal forums first. All those freebies with no-rush credits gets reposted onto SD after the code goes OOS by RepWholes who didn't see it posted and thought they share.
