Display, charge and play on your Nintendo Switch console with this Insignia dock kit. Its charging port with USB 2.0 output powers a controller and any other compatible device, and its HDMI cable connects your Switch to an HDTV. This Insignia dock kit includes a USB-C AC adapter for power outlet charging.

I don't think that's the point of this dock. I think it's supposed to be a secondary dock to put on another TV. Just like the one Nintendo sales but with a little less plastic and less than half the price.

So it doesn't scratch the screen like the official dock.

I have one of these and have written up on it multiple times (GBA, BB review, etc.) and I hate to re-hash all of that so I'll stick to the basics. I took it apart and it has the same CF001 V1.1 PCB as most other unofficial docks (some use CF003 now). The DP-to-HDMI chip is a Parade PS176 which is also used in the Samsung DeX. The power supply is different than the official with higher amps at 5V/9V but effectively the same. This dock seems safer than the Nyko likely due to the DP conversion chip, but those worried about bricking their Switch should disable the "match tv power state" option as I believe it's related to power from HDMI-CEC functionality.

The port isn't spring-loaded and may rub the front of the screen a little (electric tape fixes that, but you should have tempered glass anyway), ventilation is not perfect but sufficient, the unit is weighted with a metal plate inside. Not much more to say but you can find my reviews if you check BB or Google around on this unit. It's an excellent secondary/backup dock and could conceivably be used as a portable option as well, it's a great value at this price either way.

Kinda cool that you can see the display while it's docked. How would you view it though when it turns off by default in TV mode? I wouldn't want it always on I don't think.

Wait, it's only $5 off of the regular price.

'Tis true, but if you're on the fence I personally say this is a great dock for the price. The only minor issue I have is the dock might stick to the bottom of the Switch when trying to undock.

I actually use this. It doesn't have a spring on the USB-C connector. But the price is less than half the oem dock and comes with a power cable.

Keep it charging but don't have an HDMI cable connected to it-- just like with the switch dock

I wonder if this dock has had any issues w/ blowing out the power port. i know the nyko ones have been doing that although users have been saying that it's possibly because of the power adapter. Those who used the original power adapter did not have any problems w/ the port being blown out... yet.

Just FYI, there is only ONE usb 2.0 connector whereas the official dock as a usb 3.0 and usb 2.0 port. Just a heads up. If this one had a 3.0 port, I'd get it, but until then, i'm going to hold off.

I just got one of these last night. I thought everything was going well, but this morning I had a bit of a hiccup.

Has anyone had an issue with the actual USB C port on the Switch or the dock smelling a little like burnt electricity? Not overbearing but just happened to notice it this morning when I took the Switch off it the light stayed green lit. Put the Switch back on it and said it couldn't charge the switch and there was an "X" next to the battery.

I just to see if this is exclusive to mine or if maybe I'm just being a bit over concerned by this.

That makes no sense. The usb 3.0 port on the oem dock only runs @ 2.0 speed. Just fyi
What's the purpose then?
