How's Tiger compared to Elephant(Zojirushi)? I'm looking for a new water boiler/warmer and was looking at the Zojirushi CV-DCC40XT VE Hybrid. But $99 is a good price.

According to my experiences, most of the Tiger products I bought were made in Japan, while Zojirushi were made outside of Japan.

For the most part, Tiger and Zojirushi are equal in quality. I think many people prefer Zojirushi but Tiger is fairly common in Asian households.

Any thoughts on the inside container being "non stick" vs stainless steel? It's my main concern before buying.

Not true, both brands have a lot of items that are actually made outside of Japan, their limited made in Japan items are usually their high priced items, which makes this boiler a good deal. I owned Zojirushi water boiler and rice cooker and they are both made in Japan

I have the same concern, send them email , got this reply:

Thank you for your inquiry. Tiger Non- stick inner coating is sumiflon and does not use Teflon/lead coating. A Japanese company called Sumitomo makes our coating. For more information about sumiflon: http://www.sei-sfp.co.jp/english/...iseal.html

Here is basic information about PTFE coating; The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concluded that fluoropolymer non-stick coatings for cookware are acceptable for conventional kitchen use. Heating non-stick cookware above 500°F (260°C) can discolor the surface of the cookware or cause it to lose some of its non-stick properties. Water Boiling point 212°F (100°C) is much lower than the problems occur. It is safe to use. The coating won't melt in water even if you drink the coating flake, which is non-toxic and would pass through the body without being absorbed. Based on the inert characteristics of the coating, data indicate that there are no health effects from the incidental ingestion of pieces of non-stick coating.

From the user guide:

Do not leave hot water remaining
inside the container, this is to avoid
discoloration of the inside container or
foul odors from forming

I thought these were made to be always plugged in with water?

Forget the brand, purchased couple from korean supermarket about $60, s/stl inside, very good. Same functions, plus it has a manual pump, search in stores. Just my opinion.
