Staples online has this Cat5e inline coupler for $1.58. Free ship to store. Seems like a good price for this item and had really good reviews.

Even though it says cat5e, the description only seems to mention 10/100 networks. Anyone know if this supports Gbe (1000) speeds?

$0.34 on Monprice. Not a good deal at all.
And how much is shipping for that 34 cent item?

Cat5 vs Cat5e (though may not seem to matter). I do however find this one intriguing for those old network devices that don't autosense:

Way cheaper than the shipping Staples charges to ship to your home (which is $9.95). Even assuming you drive to Staples to pick one of these up with the free Ship to Store, it's probably about equal, and if you buy two at Staples, you're already losing.

EDIT: When you factor in tax (since Staples is in almost every state and Monoprice is only in one), the Staples price becomes even worse.

Some searching on amazon has the top seller as one that supports up to Cat7 for $5.99, which I guess is the best way to somewhat future proof yourself if you need one.

Just assumed everyone on SD had free Staples shipping.
And to be honest, it is just better to buy a longer cable.

EDIT: forgot about the no free shipping at Staples as I have not shopped there in some time.

Much agreed. Buying a cheap RJ-45 crimp tool and some parts is by far the best method. Couplers should really only be a very temporary solution; they're almost never made at the same quality as an actual patch panel.

And how does one get free Staples shipping? I signed into my ShopRunner account and it did not take off the $9.95, even though the item says "ShopRunner Eligible".

there's no difference. It couples the 8 wires in a cat 5/5e all the same. cat7 is for shielded/grounded connections and unless your switch has grounding or patch panel it won't do anything.
