I posted a slickdeal recently involving a gtx1070 laptop for less than 1k, and got all these thumbs down. I realized that it wasn't because of the deal, it was the chaotic market caused by the recent boom in gpu mining. People are upset right now over the ridiculous prices and when a good deal comes up, it gets thumbs down even though it's a great deal.
All of this is being caused by the digital cryptocurrency boom surrounding big players like bitcoin, litecoin, and erethreum to name a few.
As a result, hardware prices, namely gpu prices have become in ridiculous demand. Couple that with Ram shortages and it's been a disaster. I also think this is creating a domino effect, and motherboard prices, power supplies, and any other pc related component is going to shoot up in price. GTX1060 is around $400 or so. It's funny because I got my GTX1060 for about $130 AR a few months ago. Bleh, if Only I bought 10 of them back then, lol. GTX1070 prices are around $900 right now. GTX1080, pretty much well over $1k just for one.
AMD cards like the RX580 or RX570 also have been in shortage.
Who is really profiting off this? I'd say all hardware companies and computer manafacturers.
I'd say you are a lunatic to build a system right now with ram prices and gpu prices the way they are.
I'm a fan of building your own rig but the only reasonable prices out there are preconfigured pcs or laptops.
