Any recommendations for a good surf combo? I know this one is too small.

My penn greenies only have 1 ball bearing and they are better than the majority of the reels currently on the market.

Not comparing the two, just saying bearing count is not always significant. Bearing count is just a marketing tool. I love those kastking reels that have like 50 bearings and a thousand seals, as if that makes them superior.

Whats your budget? What type of fish you targeting? What type of fishing (lures or bait)? Where you fishing (beach, pier, jetty, etc.)? Spinning or conventional style reel?

I am looking to spend around $50. I usually use it on surf for red fish, black drum, or any other fish that bites in surf. I sometimes fish by bridges for sheaphead. Last season I used Daiwa samurai X combo from dicks but I seems to have very bad reel that broke. Returned it as it was no good.

$50 is a very tight budget for saltwater fishing gear. I honestly can not recommend anything for $50 new. Walmart has cheap combos for surf fishing, but they are just that.

Id recommend, checking your local craigslist or tackle store for used stuff if you are trying to stay within that $50.

A penn 710 is probably a good sized reel that will last a lifetime with very little maintenance (probably the easiest reel to maintain as well). They go for about $40 used on ebay.

I know nothing about that reel. I doubt it would hold up to saltwater.

As for a rod, the Ugly stiks are good for the price for all purpose fishing.

Honestly, id recommend you just get a Penn Pursuit, Fierce, or Battle combo. Pursuit is the cheapest, but i have one of tjose reels and its held up well. You can find the for $50-150 depending on which setup you get.
