Not as good as the recent BF deal, but for $435 this is a nice price for this phone still.

The overall support for this phone is poor.
Customer support is poor.
Repair parts are not available.
Drop damage is severe.

There are better phones to choose from for less.
Pretty much none of that is true. I've owned the phone for almost 2 months.

Show me the snapdragon 835 flagship for under $435.

Customer support has responded to me within hours on a Sunday.

The phone has warranty support negating the need for "repair parts".

Drop test? It survived a 3' and 5' drop onto concrete and one trip down a flight of concrete stairs.

Great phone, I love it, zero problems, and there isn't a comparable phone for the price.

I think the OnePlus 5T is comparable with AMOLED screen and better back dual camera and front camera. The signal strength is also much better on 5T. If i were to only have one phone, I would not choose Essential Phone. I have one and use it as my personal phone. I have iPhone 8 Plus as a work phone.

I actually bought one at this price this morning before seeing this post, but here's a rep anyways. Smilie

Been waiting for this to go down in price. Wish I could have gotten it for $399, but even at $499 it's a good deal w/ 128 gb of storage and snapdragon 835 cpu. If it sucks, I'll send it back. Worth it at $435.

Gotta chime in here, having got the phone from the Sprint lease deal:

Support is actually really good. They are on a 3rd beta for Oreo now, which is more stable than their 7.1.1, and all signs point to also doing a beta for 8.1. No other Android phone has even received 8.1 aside from Pixels, and most Android phones will never get even 8.0

I also don't think drop damage is "severe" or any worse than an all glass phone. I have accidentally dropped it from a counter top straight to hardwood floor with no issue. The back being ceramic is harder than gorilla glass, and the titanium frame is also stronger than aluminum.

The company also has AMA sessions on Reddit every month where they answer questions and communicate about plans.

Important distinction is that all OnePlus phones are GSM *only*, and will never work on Sprint/Verizon. The Essential works on any U.S. carrier. Also the build quality/materials are superior on the Essential, although I do wish it had an AMOLED screen.

It's what I'm doing. I bought the OP5T and Essential phone since they both have 15 and 30 return periods.

The only thing I would agree with in your post is the lack of repair parts or repairability. I've been using them exclusively for work and personal for about two months.
I don't like this phone I love it!
Excellent largish display, super fast. Zero bloat. Fast updates. Killer support team. No childish branding, logos, or other fashionista crap. This is a no-nonsense phone for people who want the best Android has to offer. It's what the pixel should have been.
Sprint is finally pushing out an update for LTE upload issue Feb 5th (hopefully). This tiny Company Essential has emailed me constantly with updates to this issue.
This is the best price available at this time.
Yes I have partaken of the Kool aid and I feel just fine thank you very much

Been an Android phone user since Android came out. On a Mi 5 now. Happy.

Yes this phone is cool, reasonable price and all that. I get that.

But the company is falling apart. Andy Rubin is on leave of absence since Nov 17 on an 'inappropriate relationship' report and no news from him so far. I'm not sure this company will make the 2nd version of the phone. Maybe that's why they don't produce more parts and want to sell the remaining stocks at a cheap price.

So if you want a cool-looking phone for a year or two, then change to another new phone, then yes this deal is good for you. But if you want to adopt a new line of Android phone line, it's a red flag because this phone may be the first and last version of its line. Personally, I want to see iterations of the phone and this may not be the case for the Essential because of poor sales over the holiday season and the bad PR they have.

I probably should not comment because it's not an area that I'm knowledgeable about, (but that has never stopped any slick dealer before) so briefly;
I have the LG G6 and Essential side by side. For me the G6 takes better photos consistently. Faster too.
I don't take many low-light shots so cannot comment.
Essential camera was really glitchy before updates. Much better now

Dang it! I've been debating between this phone and the LG G6+ with stupid Amazon ads. I ended up going with the LG because it was slightly cheaper since the Essential was still at $500. I probably would have gone with the Essential phone instead at this price just to avoid the stupid Amazon ads.
