Roku ultra for your streaming needs. If you don't care about owning physical, and only owning digital, then you don't need this.

Night and day different. The quick loading UI alone is worth the purchase. And if you watch regular HD (i.e., Blu-ray) content like documentaries, then the x800 4K upscaling abilities are so much better than the Xbox's.

Got a 4K Sony XBR 3D HDR set last year and been using the Xbox One S since, I haven't been crazy wowed by 4K picture (the sound though has been amazing) I have no problem because I didn't expect a huge picture difference but for movies it just isn't too crazy, but documentaries are a different story.

Can anyone speak to a difference justifying getting this when I already have the XBOX?

Can someone let me know if i should go with this or a roku ultra. My primary use is for Netflix and Amazon. I rarely use DVD's and blurays. But if for another $30 the picture quality is almost the same as the roku ultra I do not mind going with this one. also gives me the advantage of a bluray player..

Yeah and has apps.

Weird buydig would have this version. It's the Costco version of the x800

Does anybody have any ideas about setting up a DVD player for streaming at home? Basically I have a few DVDs and Blurays but no players, just Apple TVs. I want to set up a DVD player or something but then be able to watch the DVD from any device. Or better to rip the DVDs and put them on a media server etc.?

I have a Samsung 6290 (black friday special) tv that is 4k. I don't see that much better of a picture from standard bluray. Watching The Revnent on my buddy's 9000 series tv was amazing. I'm trying to talk myself into the LG oled on the front page.

We watched it on his Xbox s. mine is through the 4k player from black friday

Roku.

This might be $30 more at a discount but it will be very limited with apps available. A Roku will have a good amount of apps to choose from. But if you are ultimately looking to ply a dvd then give this player a try.

I have a Roku and an Amazon Fire TV but wanted to play a dvd (Bewitched TV Series), only way to do that was with a DVD player, or in my case the Sony UBP X800. Yes, 800. At the end I returned it and downloaded Plex to my Roku and setup an cloud based media library with my old DVD TV Shows. The question now is, do you want to go through the process of digitizing your dad collection? In my opinion, it's the best thing to do.
