These don't require a hub, you just need an Apple or Android device with Bluetooth. I bought three, they work great with the app, but aren't compatible with Smartthings hub or Google Home unless you purchase a GE Bluetooth-WiFi hub (I believe).

Just being Bluetooth and not ST or other smart hub compatible makes it really low tech in today's date in my opinion. I am so used to just automating via triggers or calling out Alexa or Google Home that I would never recommend this to anyone.

But in case all you want is very rare / occasional use of smart tech, then this could be a good fit.

The three I bought, I installed in a three-bulb floor lamp in my kids room... it's their new alarm clock Stick Out Tongue My store had them marked down to $3 from $5.98... probably a return from someone who thought they were Z-wave or Zigbee. I've read that there's a GE hub that will let these talk to Google Home or Alexa... but it's probably not worth the cost considering I already have a Smartthings hub. For $3, these weren't much more than a standard LED bulb.

Ah - so yes, if these were $3 then I totally agree.... So once you set them up with your phone, do they follow schedule on their own? Or do they still have to be connected to Wifi after initial BT setup to do timer related things?

$3 would have been a good deal !

Set them up with the "C by GE" app, then they can run a schedule without needing to be connected to a device. You can trigger "scenes" manually with the app, but you have to be in Bluetooth range. My boys are going to be Guinea pigs tomorrow morning at 6am...

These don't connect to Wi-Fi (directly). The hub does the heavy lifting. Since they work without the hub, logically one has to deduce that the phone programs them over BT.

As you said, decent choice for people that don't have Wi-fi.
