I3? I don't know... everything else sold me but that.

Because GTX 1070s are selling for $700-800 on their own right now. If you MUST have an i5, just configure it to have the i5-8400 for ~$100 more. Still a good deal.

If you absolutely have to have a desktop PC right now I feel dirty saying this but you might as well get it

I'm guessing the deal here is on the video card
6 months ago this was ice cold but with bitcoin rage the retail on the card is around 400 makes this lukewarm

i3 performs as last years i5. So not that bad as you originally thought. Same here though, would prefer i5 and above for the cores and processing power

Because the GPU street price is $800... and the 8th gen i3's are quad-cores unlike previous generations that were only dual core (Thank you AMD?).

This makes a good gaming desktop for those that actually need it. Most people will be GPU bottlenecked rather than GPU bottlenecked anyways (its been like this for at least the past 5 years). I'd get this an put a 256GB SSD in there and It's good to go.

Keep in mind that 8th Gen i3's are quad-cores.

According to above review this i3 is roughly the equal of an i5-7400
The i3 is locked to 3.6 so no overclocking but four solid cores 6mb cache total

This is worth it for the GPU alone. The other stuff can be parted out and you'd get easy buy for a 1070 card.
