Typical price for this router (which gets good reviews), but if you need a new modem too, then it's a pretty slick deal.

No, it's a cable modem. Won't work with FiOS.

It will work but then you have a modem sitting there for collecting dust.

It will work, but it all depends on your setup. If you have verizon TV you'll need to use their router so your stb can get the program guide, but you can connect the router to the Verizon router and DMZ the IP. Or... you can do like me and ask for an Ethernet connection instead of coax (I only have internet).

Firstly, the modem in this router is completely useless for FiOS. Second, as far as I know you always need a Verizon router for FiOS service. You can set that up as a bridge and use this routers functions, but can't bypass the Verizon router.

The FIOS router is not a modem... the modem or ONT (Optical Network Terminal) sits either outside the house or in your basement.
You can by pass the router by DMZ the IP or you can request Ethernet connection from the ONT to whatever router you use.

In for 1. I needed both a router and a modem to replace my Cox rental equipment. Because I don't have a huge house and my ISP package is slower than the device's max speeds, this was a no brainer for me. (Link to CNETs review: here [cnet.com] )
