Well, it's all "sponsored Chinese garbage." Real question is if its a good brand of garbage.

would this be good to plug into my router and toss a WD red drive in and use for a NAS?
or would i be better off with an enclosure?
really wish it came with a clear plastic dome to go over it to keep the dust off the drive

Enclosures with fans or that act as a heatsink are generally better. These are ok but the drive can get hot sometimes. Any kind of covering would make that much worse of a problem. Not sure how well this aluminum dock dissipates heat but since it barely touches the drive, I would guess it wouldn't do much.

I've been pondering exactly the same thing. I yanked a 3tb drive out of a Seagate network drive that had a horrible interface. I really want an enclosure but these docks pop up every other week, and the few enclosure deals are for 2.5" drives. Ultimately, I'm going to go for the enclosure. I want something fairly slim that won't take up a lot of space, and there's no benefit to having the drive removable as it's going to be storing media.

I find the drives gets hot when it is engaged. I only use it for storage of media files that are not critical if lost. I use old drives pulled from retired PCs as cheap storage.

When I am using them I always have a small desk fan blowing against it to keep it cool. I shut it down once I am done with backing up to them.
