Slick Dealer mentality... "LEDs will save me $2/year and will help the env... Ooooh look a dog collar with Bluetooth for only $49 + free s/h!!!"

I could be wrong but not only you'll be saving electricity with LED but the durability of LED is way longer than non-led, which breaks easily. Again, I never owned string lights so I could totally be off here.

Why can't the LED versions go on sale as frequently as the halogen's?

I believe the LED's are double or triple the price of the halogen's.

Don't worry, you will be paying more than retail price of led lights from all the extra electricity cost really soon
Do you mean all incandescent bulbs should be stopped producing because of the higher electricity costs? To be fair, this is really a great price for vintage string lights.

I've had my string lights for 2 years, I maybe run then 1hr a week on average

At 5c a kw/hr, it will take me many years for the electric saving of led to be worth it and I will likely move by then and not take my string lights with me

If you use string lights for many hours a night, then yeah, go LED
