"connect 1 HDMI source to toggle between 2 displays as HDMI Splitter.".. That's not really what function most people want from splitters... They want content to be viewed simultaneously on multiple screens. Or record live gaming etc (some use it to strip copy protection).

That's exactly what I'd like to do. Is there a product you recommend? Or at least what it's called?

I have one of these boxes (not this particular one though) that I use for when I need to switch between if I want my Xbox One to display on my TV or on a monitor in another part of the same room (using a 30ft HDMI cable).

The splitters that show on two monitors simultaneously wouldn't work for me in that use-case scenario, since I'm only looking to play on one display or the other at a time. Don't want it also outputting to the display I'm not actively using. I think that's one of the reasons they make these also.

I got the same switch for $12 two months ago. Works well and is more solid that I was expecting. I use it to toggle between my computer monitor and TV. This way I can play my PS4 when the wife and kids are watching TV, and go back to the big screen if they're not around. Good deal at ~$8.

That's all good use cases but that is more like a HDMI Switch

An HDMI splitter .... like ViewHD 2 Port 1x2 Powered HDMI Mini Splitter for 1080P & 3D | Model: VHD-1X2MN3D [amazon.com]

Q&A from Amazon:
Question: Why are they calling this a splitter? this is an HDMI switch, is it not? A splitter simultaneously sends the same HDMI signal to multiple devices.
Answer: Yes it is a switch, not a splitter. It works well.
By Robert Keller on February 10, 2016
This is a HDMI switch. It only sends a signal to either port A or B, depending on which side of the switch is powered.
By dp6651 on February 10, 2016
Correct, it is only a switch. I was under the impression it was a splitter as well. However it still worked perfectly for my intentions. Maybe you lose a generous amount of picture and sound quality when you split the signal from one HDMI source.
By James G. on February 12, 2016
You are correct. It is a switch, not a splitter.
By Gregory K. Thompson on February 12, 2016
It is Bi-directional converter. It not only connect two HDMI sources to a single HDMI display but also switch single HDMI source to two displays respectively.
By Tendak SELLER on February 15, 2016
because it has a switch on it to choose which input, its a basic A/B switch

I 100% agree (mine is what's considered a switch, but they still used the word "splitter" in their listing).

You'll notice that a lot of these off-brand Amazon sellers will use both words - switch and splitter - even when it clearly only does one of those functions. It's likely so they can increase their product's visibility in search queries by shoppers for either item by using keywords for both Wink

So is this similar to a video capture card? Let's say I have a switch, want to livestream my games at Twitch.tv of me playing Nintendo games and that means I need a way to have the game show on my monitor within my desktop so I can capture that screen??

If this is not the product, what would people recommend....?
