These aluminum bent holder teeth that don't allow a laptop to slide down seem way too tall, would not permit to use a mouse pad properly.

Yep. They next to be left and right or slightly thinner than new MBPs. Centered is just stupid in case user wants to use trsckpad once in awhile.

true but a lot of these have issues with laptops sliding out. that's why they make the lips tall.

So stick a pen or something under it to lift it up a bit if that's a problem - seems a silly thing to complain about when it needs to fit various different possible thicknesses and is so easily remedied.

Also many laptops have touch screens nowadays, so the touchpad can be superfluous.

I agree. I have two of those. You can also turn it around and use it as an iPad stand.

Generally I see people using stands like these in conjunction with a separate keyboard and mouse. The idea is to get the laptop screen up to a more comfortable height for use at a desk.

That's how I'm looking at using it.

Currently use a laptop docked, lid closed with two external monitors, external keyboard and mouse. If I replace it, I'm thinking have laptop n a riser, open, and that's my second monitor. Have a larger monitor next to it as my main monitor.

(Laptops these days don't seem to have output support for two monitors... even though the OS can handle it... Even three sometimes..
