Sage advice from this Newegg reviewer:

"Cons: Small, light, cheap, appears to be fragile, ASUS rebates, as always, are iffy. Even if you do get yours, expect to wait four to five months for it. Every single time. Four to five months. And maybe a couple of irate phone calls to the rebate center."

I wouldn't bother buying ASUS external drive . Got one during BF and I got screwed on the mail in rebate due to ASUS mistake. In addition their drive is uber slow, they're only good for reading and not for burning. If you need burn CD or DVD I would suggest to fork up 50 bucks or more if you need an external drive for your laptop.

Still waiting on my $20 rebate from a monitor I purchased about 5 months ago, and am 2 irate phone calls in, so the reviewers statement is 10000% accurate

I have the same Asus dvd drive I purchased years ago. Surprised they still sell it. I don't use dvd often and didn't want one in my pc tower so I went with an external drive. I use it every few months. Works well though, never had an issue.

Tempting to replace a 2.4x external USB burner I have that I got with a Lenovo ultra book in 2008/9

Either buy this or wait for Blu Ray externals to get under $50.....

There have been multiple sub-$50 external BD burners so far in 2018. If you're even considering one I would pass on this deal.
