I have to admit that this promotion stuns me. For comparison Papa Johns gives out free, large pizzas for many random promos. Just before the new year they gave out thousands per day for a few days apparently just for fun and those codes were good for an entire month. By comparison Pizza Hut is risking only a medium pizza here and it has to be used in a 4-day window. And to add insult to injury they manage to make the odds so crazy long that it is not worth anyone wasting their time or email to signup up for this promo. If they made it a reasonable promo with reasonable odds, they would get some people (myself included) to sign up and give them a try again. (The last Pizza Hut pizza that I had a year or two ago was bad enough that we threw most of it away.) Even without a free pizza "win," some of those new accounts would remain on their list to receive promos emails and coupons that would get Pizza Hut new business.

But less than 14 seconds for a TD is really not even a viable promo to get anyone to sign up. It is embarrassing IMHO, and they should immediately fire their ad agency that come up with this crap. They missed a good opportunity to get a bunch of new sign-ups, some of which would turn into real customers. Come on guys. Make it a bet of who wins the coin toss. (PJ did that promo for a couple of years.) Make it a bet on who scores first. Make it a bet of anything reasonable. Stick your neck out and risk giving away a few thousand free medium pizzas and then make a press release about how cool you are for making some-thousands of hungry fans happy. But what they are doing here is a total waste.

Pizza Hut, if you are reading this, PM me for more free advice. It can't be worse than what you got from your overpriced ad agency on this turd promo. All I'll ask in return is a free pizza or two. :-)

Free bonus idea: If you, Pizza Hut, are really too cheap to considering giving away a few thousand free medium pizzas simply for the promo value, do this: When someone goes to redeem that free medium pizza, offer to let them upgrade to a large for a couple of dollars. I'm betting that you could set the upgrade price ($2 or even $3?) at a level that would cover your entire cost of the pie. Many redeemers would take you up on the upgrade offer since they need a large to feed their family or friends anyhow. (As long as the upgrade fee was reasonable, I would pay it, for example) I bet that you could cover most of the free pizza costs that way and *still* get the benefits of new customers.
