Detailed review:

Comparison to the Tamron 150-600mm (G1 which is about this price):
http://www.imaging-resource.com/l...sp/review/

"Perhaps the most directly comparable alternative, Sigma's offering in this area is so close in performance to Tamron it's hard to tell them apart. Sigma's OS image stabilization system produces slightly better results, but has some quirks to it the Tamron doesn't. The Sigma is available in Canon, Nikon and Sigma mounts, so Sony users are out of luck."

These lenses are a lot of fun for birding or outdoor events where you are sitting in the cheap seats but be warned that you will need strong arms (and good technique) or a tripod. I regularly handhold it but many will struggle. A compromise is a strong monopod.

Note that the Tamrons zoom/twist Nikon style; Sigmas zoom/twist Canon style. That can be a bit annoying but I suppose most people won't be running and gunning with one of these.

I thought it was but last time I saw this lens it was way to much money, why has the price dropped?

Great lens but if you don't need the range the Tamron 100-400mm way lighter and better optics. Same price.

USB update-able lens? Now I've seen everything.
Anyone have reviews of this one compared to the S version? With fewer glass elements, it seems like the quality will be lacking somewhere in the C version.

i have really been enjoying using my 70-200 f/2.8L for nature/bird pictures but it's just not far reaching enough... really considering this lens.

I've been thinking of the Tamron 150-600 G2 for the reach. Otherwise I think the 70-200 is a good workhorse. From what I recall in terms of IQ:

1. Sigma 150-600 sport
2. Tamrom 150-600 G2
3. Sigma 150-600 Contemporary.
