Thumbs up to this deal. I posted this same deal from last week at $1299, but everyone decided to threadcrap... stating that BestBuy has the unit for about $900 Open Box, and as a result this deal never saw the light of day.

Four things before someone decides to threadcrap again.
1) The BestBuy deal is gone. Out of Stock.
2) This is brand new, with full warranty.
3) No tax for most buyers.
4) This is a better laptop---it has an SSD that the BestBuy version doesn't have.

It was an in store deal. Just got lucky that day they reduced it all the way to $800 because there was no box and it was only the laptop and charger. Good thing about it was there was no scratch or defect.

Ugh.... Tax kills it for WA residents now. They just lost me as a customer.

How future proof do you guys consider the 1070 video card for Virtual reality ?

IMHO VR is mostly a gimmick right now, but one nice thing about this laptop is it has thunderbolt 3, so you'll be able to use a external gpu enclosure and pretty much use any gpu you want.

That's a great point...now I'm tempted to look for a laptop with a gtx 1060 instead (which is good enough if you want to run things pretty smoothly at 1080p) with a thunderbolt 3 connection. That would future proof it and save me money!

Things to think about for sure.

just to warn you... with the implementation of thunderbolt 3 you will see a sorta hefty performance loss with the connection with an external enclosure

the only people that get around the issue with the implementation is alienware, but that is because they don't use thunderbolt 3, they use a proprietary connection that connects directly to the bus so there is no performance hit... issue is they charge you like 500 for just the enclosure

but for the most part thunderbolt 3 at least gives you the option/ just dont expect pure number performance to equal the same

Alienware enclosures is only $150 on ebay and $170 on Amazon(msrp was $299 3 years ago). Also only 10% loss if you have thunderbolt 3 port with 4 lanes of pcie. Techs improved and price dropped alot. You can easily find thunderbolt 3 enclosure for around $200.
Gtx1070 should last couple years without need of external gpu.
