Is this confirmed to use an nvme ssd? Based on this review, it can come with either sata or nvme: https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-...600.0.html

The HP ZBook 15 G3 is available with 2.5-inch hard drives or M.2-SSDs (SATA or NVMe), and you can obviously combine both solutions as well. Our review unit is equipped with an NVMe-SSD from Samsung (SM951) with a storage capacity of 512 GB

That is an educated guess because I have posted this deal earlier and that time it was mentioned to have NVMe SSD.

I have this laptop, it works well. Note that this is a workstation so gaming will not be optimal, it can run games just expect medium to low settings. As an example PUBG ran about 60 fps on 720p w/ settings on low.
BEWARE: I have had issues when HP rolls out updates. Currently whenever my screen locks it flickers and a friend of mine, who bought his laptop in the fall, is having this issue as well. They are annoying but typically are bearable.

Be aware that this model is different from and should NOT be confused for the ZBook Studio G3. The Zbook Studio is a completely different beast.

This particular model is a full-fledged mobile workstation, hence the MXM, upgrade-able graphics module, 4 DIMM slots, and 6 lbs of weight. Though to be fair, 6 lbs is light IMHO for what you're getting.

I picked up a Zbook Studio G3 in a previous deal, and I've been so happy with it. I maxxed the RAM out to 32 GB in mine, and swapped the 4-cell batt to a 8-cell unit. Build quality is outstanding on these ZBooks.

6700HQ is 6th gen CPU, kind of weak, 6820HQ is better
RAM DDR4 2133, not 2400
No IPS screen
Not a good price

I think that this a pretty solid price for workstation quality laptop with a 1 year warranty. Pick up the $849 option with the HDD and swap out the drives.

Display is IPS based on notebookcheck
The 6700HQ and 16gb of 2133 RAM will be fast enough for most uses, 6820HQ is only around 10% faster.

Not to mention most of the components are upgradable. Original retail on this was easily $2000+

We have quite a few of these 15 and 17 inch G3s at my place of work and they constantly break down. I've got 2 waiting around for back order system boards as we speak. One had its system board replaced, but the replacement was defective as well. I wouldn't recommend the Zbooks.

Because you did not understand this is a mobile workstation, not for watching movies and playing games.

not finding any deals on >1k desktops in the last couple of weeks. Would this be a good desktop replacement if I hooked it up to a monitor permanently?

Have one if these through work. Besides it being a beast and handling most the cad I throw at it, my favorite feature is the dedicated buttons for left middle and right click on the touchpad.

Genuine question - what's the difference? Like, what differentiates a laptop from a mobile workstation?
