Based on some feedback, I overhauled this deal listing. - Thanks itsarectangle
Roku Streaming Stick (3600R) | Portable HD Streaming Player, Quad-Core Processor, Dual-Band Wi-Fi (Certified Refurbished) https://amazon.com/Roku-Streaming...B01LYH75CE -$30
Roku Premiere+ | 4K UHD Streaming Media Player, Quad-Core Processor, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, and IR Remote | + includes HDR, Ethernet, MicroSD slot (Certified Refurbished) https://amazon.com/Roku-Streaming...B06XS33WDQ - $48
I have never owned a Roku device, so I'm looking to the members here for some feedback. If you own one of these, especially a "Certified Refurbished" one, would you recommend it? If not, should I stick with something like a Chromecast or Amazon Fire TV (4k)? Seems like there are some mixed reviews on Amazon for this "Certified Refurbished" model. I need to give credit to DealNews for this deal.

If a Moderator would like to change the title from "referb" to "refurbished", please do so. Thank you.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Not thread crapping but just putting this out there. These are older models which is fine (no TV power or volume buttons without buying an additional sideclick).

The 3800 was just $39.99 for brand new but back up to $49.99. It is the 2017 model with universal TV power and volume built in. I have both and 2016 and 2017 and absolutely love the new built in TV power and volume.

If you are not in a rush, hold out for the BRAND NEW 3800 to go back on sale for $39.99.

I do recommend buying refurbished high-end Roku models. The Premiere Plus is a good one, especially if you don't care much about the few extra features the Roku Ultra has. I kind of wish the Amazon Video shortcut button hadn't been replaced with HBO Now on the remotes though (as compared to the remotes for models of previous generations).

On the other hand, it's good to be aware of the differences between Roku and Android-based streaming media players. Android-based players can sideload apps from mobile devices and sometimes from other app stores. Some people complain that Roku doesn't have a Kodi app (I recommend Plex instead). Also Roku doesn't really have a web browser, although there are certain apps that can workaround that to a certain degree (some examples are R-Cast, iWebTV, PlayTo, AllCast, LocalCast, and RokuCast).

Yes this is good price. I picked up 2 Premiere+ for $50 and they are awesome. They were buggy early on (HDMI issues) but firmware finally fixed. Roku firmware leaves a lot to be desired.

The big one for me is that P+ has ethernet, the sticks are all wireless so YMMV on connectivity and the new 4k stick has some unwieldy dongle for wifi antenna. I picked up a new RSS (non 4K) to try the new voice capability and it is still beta IMHO. Again another difference.

And I won't buy anymore Amazon gear, they seem to really favor their own content and now with the feud w/ Google we use YT all the time, so adios.

Roku Premier: https://www.amazon.com/Roku-4620X...B06XS2XKHM
Roku Express: https://www.amazon.com/Roku-Expre...B06XS5T8NN

Make a note that the premier listed here is an IR remote - not a fan
