Trying to decide on what receiver to get. Don't want to spend more than 300-350

Pulled the trigger on this one, looks pretty future proof and seeing as I'm upgrading from a 5 disc DVD all in one from 10 years ago, this should be a bump.

Here is a more thorough comparison. Personally the 681 is worth the extra $50 for me.

So long as you don't plan on using the same speakers that came with that one..!

The 681 can be updated via firmware to include Dolby Vision. The 581 cannot.

The newer 583 has Dolby Vision from the factory.

I just jumped to 4k and need a new receiver.

I currently use an HTR-7065.

Is the 681 the worth while purchase here, or should I wait for something better?

My tv supports 4K, hdr10, DV. I would have a nvidia shield and a firetv connected to it.

I bought the 681 on Amazon back in December for $300. I'm sure the price will drop again if you're willing to wait.

The 681 @ +$50 is a much better buy. Dolby Vision content is here and any receiver not capable of passing through the information out of the box or via a firmware update is already behind the times. You can always hold off on a receiver purchase until the HDR formats are sorted out (don't forget HDR10+ is coming) but at the moment you want one that does DV at the very least especially if you already have equipment capable of it.
