Fakespot rating of C, you be the judge! Quick google shows no one has tinker with it to work with Synology and possible spyware... Want it to work at this price point, but the possible spyware got me turned offffffff and time I would need to devote to make it work also is a negative for me also.

not good in term of video and image qualities.
get this one https://slickdeals.net/f/10789367-annke-security-i61dr-2mp-1080p-ip-security-camera-49-free-shipping-49-99?v=1&src=SiteSearch

this is real rebranded hikvision (not build by hikvision for other brands since can be lower in video and image quality)/ if you visit Amazon, once for a while, they have refurbish one for $35..... (if you are lucky)

Thanks! I bought 3 Samsung cameras from Costco but the reviews are terrible. I haven't opened them up to try them yet. Just looking for something to keep an eye on our pets when we are out of the house.

Is spyware a real issue? I keep seeing people mention it anytime something made in China comes up.

please read on ipcamtalk link, you will have valuable information if this is for you or not since needing to flash hikvision firmware 3 times Big Grin.
annke never has update firmware after many requests. the annke current firmware has a hole where someone can take over the camera. hikvision firmaware has the fix for that.
once again, please read on ipcamtalk link,

I read the link. Thanks for posting! Is the firmware hole something to worry about in regular normal circumstances. Like, we use these to spy on the dog and watch the baby. Theoretically would we have to worry about someone hacking them?

It's more an issue if I had an enemy that knew where I lived etc. Right?

My $0.02 from using this for about a month now. This is a fairly good 1080 ip camera(non-POE and wireless only). It is a Hikvision(Ezviz) rebranded camera similar to it's brother the Annke I61DR POE model that I have a couple of as well. I can record it fine via my Dahua 4KS2 NVR over RTSP while recording to microsd as local backup. It has IFTTT integration with Amazon Alexa for Echo Show or automation. It doesn't have a local web page to change config so it's all done in app(I use Hik-Connect/Ezviz instead of Annke b/c I have other Hikvison cameras). I like the magnet base as I can attach to fridge, shelf in garage, etc. It's very compact(barely noticeable if tucked in a corner w/IR disabled) and the 2-way communication is adequate.

Hi FiKSix,

YES with all of the IP connected cameras and device you have to be concerned with them getting hacked... even if just being hijacked for bitcoin miners. sooner or later IP devices get owned.

So definitely
1) Follow the link which Cantalup mentioned and update the firmware
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=111847643&postcount=5
( once you've got updated firmware the product is at least covered for the worst publicly known exploits to that point .. )
2) Use a VPN. Do not port forward.
3) and the usual recommendations on updated PCs and devices, AV, backups,...

What is hikvision model number?...
Can be reflashed with hikvision firmware?

161DR is very good on streaming quality.. comparable with my dahua dome poe cam. Poe and etherenet plus wifi. I use poe since no issue syreaming 24/7 to my zoneminder. Wifi randomly discoonect at least 2 3 times a week.

I have foscam and other chinese cam ... these are nothing to compated with hikvision and dahua image and streaming quality.

As long as onvif and rtsp.. is good for me, but Local web is usefull... since not all configuration can be done via onvif.

I've been out of the loop for a while, but what is the disadvantage of Port Forwarding? General security?

HI mfdoc,

Think of port forwarding = putting a door to your house in the worst neighborhood in the world.

Even with a lock, sooner or later someone will break in as anyone in the world can find the front door and knock on it.

A VPN attempts to restrict those who can find the front door to those with the VPN credentials ( and software ).
