Decent price but open box? Is BuyDug legit? Would hate to bite on this only to receive nothing but a well used camera, ya know?

The open box is no warranty so it is not worth to risk unless you have other warranty coverage.

Why wouldn't it have the standard 1 year Sony warranty...

This is literally from the buydig rep on the same link posted.

"Hello, This is a brand new item with USA warranty. We are an authorized USA dealer. Thank you for your interest, be well."

Anyone have experience with an open box item from this vendor? On the site it says they're new, not used/returned. I'm tempted, to say the least.

Buydig's response

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting us.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Our open box items are items that have been returned to us by a previous customer. Most of these items are in excellent condition. Being that they have been opened, we cannot sell them as new. We do not have any additional pictures that we can send to you. However, I can assure you that the product is in very good condition. Please note: All open box items are final sales. We will not accept any returns for open box items unless they are found to be defective. Since this is an open box item, the manufacturer's warranty does not apply. This item does not come with any warranty.

That's ludicrous. If I end up having to submit a warranty claim for this camera, Sony better damn honor it or I'm going to rip Buydig a new one - good thing I bought with discover.

Nowhere on the website did they state that the original manufacturer warranty is void. You don't just sell a no-warranty item without mentioning it at the slightest. And I definitely shouldn't have to find this information on a post on slickdeals let alone a damn email.

I really hope the CS rep is wrong. Sony even lists Buydig as an authorized dealer so it makes no sense that an item which was returned has no warranty. Ugh Im so pissed. And No returns? Are they kidding?!

Sony's warranty policy states no warranty on Open Box items. If your receipt doesn't say "Open Box," you may have some luck. If it does say it, you won't get warranty coverage unless you go 3rd party.

The serial number of "OPEN BOX" items are different form the new items. So there is no warranty based on the serial number not just the description on the receipt.

That's not true at all. You seriously think that Buydig is removing the serial number stickers on these returned cameras and placing a new sticker?

If these were from Sony themselves, I could see that. But not a 3rd party

It is sold out anyway. The number on the website is "SNILCE6300LOB". OB stands for open box.

Absolute covfefe.

So I would say this is how the warranty will play out. If the manufacture date is less than about 14 months ago, you'll have some sort of warranty. If not, you won't. Since without proof from a receipt, most manufacturers will base it from date made + 2 months or so for shelf time. That's assuming that the person that returned it didn't submit a warranty registration. If so you are screwed.

So people pays OB item with risking unknown status of warranty? I would just think people who buys this may simply assume there is no warranty to get rid of any expectation for the coverage from BuyDig.
