Good price for a bundle and some great cameras. I highly recommend the A7SII or the A6500 if you're shooting video content. The A7RII doesn't have as many video features (though it is better for photos) and the A6300 has mechanical issues which causes it to shut down when shooting 4K video. I personally have a A7RII (for my work camera) and a A6500 (for my personal camera) and am planning on purchasing the A7RIII.

Adorama, BuyDig and Focus are all participating. Just search here for threads.

Here are the details:

Sony has the A7RII on promo right now for $2400, then you can do a trade in where you get another $200 back + whatever the value of your trade in is. Find cheap old lens you don't want, use as trade in, let's say you pay $50 for Craiglist Kit lens.

So it's $2400 upfront, when they get your trade, they'll credit you $200 -> $2200 minus the $50 you paid for the lens, then plus whatever the store gives you, let's say $10, so $2240 for the A7RII.

Focus had a decent non-trade in deal on the A7RII w/35mm Rokinon too, do a search here and you'll find it.

Just be aware of Sony's lens prices and sizes if you're thinking of moving systems. The body is small, but lenses are massive (particularly if you want fast lenses). Also, A7RII battery life is TERRIBLE, absolutely TERRIBLE. If I had to guess, I would guess Sony retrofitted the battery from the a5000/6000 series to get the A7s out the door. The batteries are wholly inadequate. I would seriously consider going A7R3 (with trade in promo of course) for the benefits but mostly for the larger capacity battery. Sony isn't a bad system if you buy smallish lenses (28mm F2, 55mm f1.8, etc.) but if you want fast lenses factor in the lens size + carrying 3-4 batteries in your bag.

Here are the trade in details:
https://alphauniverse.com/tradeup/

FWIW last year was way better, they had big trade in rebates on lenses too. If you're not already on Sony, I would wait a few months to see what Canon/Nikon have up their sleeves. They're both supposedly coming out with or announcing their mirrorless offerings this year. Nikon is rumored to have a brand new lens mount, Canon is rumored to maybe keep EF mount. Either way, I wouldn't jump in yet until we have the whole picture.

I purchased the first bundle with the two lenses and the A7rii. Do we really think we will get what is described? That's a free lens plus a bunch of extra stuff. Seems too good to be true.

Don't think the first bundle is worth it. You're better off going for the A7RII bundle with the just the 35mm 2.8, or otherwise buy a cheapie kit lens from eBay/Craigslist and do the trade-in on the A7RII.

Read the reviews on the 24-70 F4, they're not that great. IMO not worth the money.

Do the trade in, it's super easy. Find cheap working lens on eBay/Craiglist. You'll get minimum trade in bonus + what the lens is worth (probably not more than $10-15).

Look at the trade-in promo or the Rokinon 35mm promo on the A7RII instead of getting the 24-70mm.

Sorry if I am being dense, where would I find the trade in promo?

Thanks for this breakdown! I am currently on the A6000 and teetering between the A7rii and iii. I shoot primarily photos, but need the 4k video option now as well.

I disagree with this. The a6300 is more than adequate for 4K and shouldn't have any mechanical issues. Maybe yours was defective?

The a6500 has literally the same components for video recording. Main selling point is the in body image stabilization

I think the term "mechanical issues" is too broad and hence misleading or not descriptive enough. The 6300 overheats after 20 min or so of 4K shooting. This also happens on a lot of 4k camears, same with A7Rii before the firmware update.

x2 on all that... funny how every time that sony shows up, people start trolling with false information Confused

i have an a7r, it uses the same batteries as the a7rii, and i don't have a problem with battery life... 3rd-party batteries are $10 each, i have several of 'em that work great.
