Just a little warning about SW gift cards from 3rd parties...

I bought one online months in advance to cover flights for a vacation. Ends up the cards were purchased from SW with a stolen credit card and the charges were reversed. SW canceled the gift card (I get it) but did not alert me to the issue (I don't get it). I did not find out until I went to check in online the morning before and they told me I needed to check in with a person at the airport. I skipped work to head to the airport to discuss the problem. At the desk they told me that because they didn't get paid for the card they were not honoring the card and they have a policy to not tell the person who booked the ticket. The best reason I could get for the policy is because they believe that the individual who is flying is committing fraud and they don't want to tip them off that SW knows ahead of time... For some odd reason they didn't have the SWAT team descend from the rafters when I arrived at the airport.

After hours of arguing they let me pay for the rest of the flight via my credit card at the originally purchased rate and gave me a small credit towards a future flight to help defer some of my lost work and airport parking fees.

Gift Card Zen, the place I originally purchased the cards from, stepped up and refunded my money ($500) after a brief investigation. So big ups to them- making things right when the chips are down is the most important thing a business can do.

If you're a timid flyer, really have to make a flight, or aren't ready to make a scene at an airport, you may want to skip the GC route.

Yes this is always the problem with 3rd party gc, you will even hear such stories with PayPal digital gc as well as some others, Svm, raise, unless you plan on using it quickly it's always a risk, really no way to avoid it except to avoid 3rd party gc. But I must say those luv cert cheapie so on Ebay are quite nice when you get a deal to use immediately.
