Amazon has GE RPWFE Refrigerator Water Filter for $40.49 + (tax - if applicable) + FS . This s not RPWF - (cheaper version). This was $46 3-4 days back. I had it in cart but did not order. Yesterday it was out of stock and today it was back @ $40.49.

Only different from RPWS filter of the chip. Just remove the chip on the dummy filter and tape it on the frig sidewall and go ahead buying this one.
Or stay cheap like me by paying for 2 after market one for $25 on amazon

If we tape bypass plug's chip on the side, and fit a new filter, won't the water not flow thru the new filter and just go thru some other place because fridge reads it as bypass? Would we still get filtered water?

Wow, I had no idea that fridges employ DRM on water filters. Guess I have to double and triple check that too, next time I buy appliances. Keurig isn't getting my business for that reason, either...

Apparently some people have stated that it still works because they still see the new gray water from the newly activated carbon.

It sounds like it actually doesn't do any mechanical bypass?
