Best buy has had the lens + body for 1000 new for a couple of months now i think. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony...Id=2672651

But with this deal you do get the microphone and no tax for many people.

This is a helluva deal. I loved my A7 and although I upgraded to the A7ii, it's not THAT much better. This is a steal of a deal considering you can sell off the kit lens and the mic (if you're not into video) and have a brand new mirrorless A7 for ~$600...

I've been lusting after the 6500 for a while, always thought the A7 series is out of range. This changes things up.

The lack of OSS on this is making me question it though. Any thoughts?

the stabilization in the lens is fine - if you want the in body stabilization they have the A7II on sale. I have thousands of shots on my A7R and most are fine.
Remember - the 6500 will focus faster and has a built in flash. The Full Frame FF A7 can shoot with half as much light, and can have a shallower DOF. I still use my APS-C cameras, but only for non-critical work. If you have a moving subject, bumping up the ISO and shutter speed will stop motion, while OSS only helps shake.

For blur image due to camera shake. In general, if you shoot with shutter speed equal or faster than 1/focal length of the lens, the result should be pretty good. Of course, it vary from photographers to photographers.

For example. if you use a 50mm focal length lens, shoot with 1/50 shutter speed or faster to get a sharp photo. So for 200mm, choose 1/200 or faster.

In some situation, you may need to bump up the ISO to achieve the desire shutter speed. With the Sony full frame sensor in this camera, the result should not be too bad even with ISO 1600, 3200 or even 6400 if the photo is not under exposed which may cause more noise.

Keep in mind we are talking about blur due to camera shake which in camera or in lens type vibration reduction technology can help. If the blur is caused by the moving objects, you just need to use a faster shutter speed (or add artificial light such as flash(es)) to freeze the motion.

Still love my a7. Just a fantastic camera. Great deal with the mic included.

Just a heads up: the a7ii is now $1298 with the kit lens ($1098 for the body only) at a variety of retailers (Adorama, B&H, Buydig, etc). Might be worth it for the some folks for the upgrades (in-body stabilization, faster AF, etc.).

How bad is the auto focus on the A7 MK 1 compared to the competition in the current day in 2018?
Already have a Fujifilm XT20, Was thinking of getting A7 for playing around with Old Manual Lenses/Astrophotography given the price.
Do you any of you see the price dropping in the next couple of months?
