I have no idea what this is. Can you provide more details? It's incredibly vague -

Where is this gift card obtained? From At&t? How does one get it?

With activation. No thanks. Thought this might be an unlocked outright ver.

Sadly, this is one of the best deals you can get on an 8/plus/x without opening any strings attached. I jumped on this a month ago when they were giving $250 gift card. Also note that AT&T will ding you for $25 upgrade fee which I think is usually waived when you buy directly from AT&T.

Unless you already have an iPhone 5 or newer with at&t then just switch the SIM cards out and it will work just the same no fee

Sim is already in the phone. You need to activate or upgrade and do 30 month installment. There's no way around getting the phone without the SIM

Umm no, the upgrade fee has nothing to do with the physical SIM card, at&t will slap this on your bill once you upgrade. You might be able to waive it off by calling at&t directly. So even then it's YMMV

Just take out the sim and put yours in before powering on...

Is the fee triggered by a new SIM or by creating an installment plan?

My experience with Fry's was terrible as their pos system couldn't pull up the order so they couldn't bill me. Ultimately, they had to back everything out on the AT&T side and sell me the phone 3 days later once they fixed the pos. Initially, they had me on a new SIM, then had to discard it when backing me out, and move me back to my original sim.
