Iphone or Goggle Voice

Anyone use goggle voice. Would it do what I am looking for.

Have an Iphone 8. I am not like most. I dont use it or check it every hour.
Still use one of my landlines most of the time. If someone leaves me a message I will get it sooner.
I can see my answering machine flashing from across the room every time I walk in or out or my home office.

My cell phone I will not notice a message since one I dont get that many on the cell phone. And I have to stop and pick it up and hit the home button to check. Since I dont get that many on the cell phone I am not in the habit of checking it often.
Really just have it for when I leave the house.
Iphone is great for everything besides what I need it for. Just a phone.

I know that I am old fashioned need to change with the times.

But my old flip phone was better at a phone. And it would flash a light whenever I had a message. Or the screen would stay light up. So easy to see just looking at it on the counter as I walk past. Iphone only does this for a few minutes.

The flip phone was also quicker to use. If I needed to call home or one of my preset contacts. I would just press one preset number on keypad and hold and it would be dialing the number.
Not a big deal just mentioning the flip phones had some advantages and was more efficient for me just needing a phone.

But I am on my laptop a number of times during the day.

What I need for myself. Is a way for get an email whenever someone leaves a message on my cell phone.

Is this possible, would google voice do something like this.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Google voice works for your requirement.
Link your cell phone and google voice. You need to configure google voice correctly to get it to work.

And can still keep the same phone number?

So someone would call my cell phone and leave a message. The iphone would receive it first and thensend a copy of that message to goggle voice. Which would send the email.

Do I understand this right?

Thanks

no...

you can port your phone number into google voice. if you do, calls to that number will ring on devices that use google hangouts and it will ring your cell phone at the same time.

Google voice has it's own voice mail which will generally pick up the call before your cell phone's vm does.

Calls directly to your cell phone would still end up in your cell's voicemail and wouldn't ring google voice devices like an obi.

on Android you can use apps like Pushbullet and AirDroid to get notifications from your phone on your computer. on iOS you can get similar functionality if you have a mac.
