Serious question. Why is something like this needed? Unless you're putting really dirty and gunky clothes in there, why doesn't the washer's natural cycle of soap, agitate, rinse pretty much do the job itself.

For folks that don't leave the washer door open to dry after use. Mold and gunk starts to build up and you start getting that funky smell inside the washer which will transfer onto your clothes after a wash. I always leave my door open at least a day after use but still use this product probably twice a year. And every other month I use baking soda and vinegar.

You're 100% dean on right you must leave the door open after each use to prevent mold from accumulating especially under the rubber strips by the door.
Reps to you x4 for good info.

Ahh yes must clean the gaskets as well. Also aside from the folks that don't leave the door open to dry, there are folks that tend to leave or forget their clothes in the washer after the wash cycle has ended or use the wrong type of detergent for HE washers which can lead to the mildew and soap scum buildup as well.

Makes sense. I leave my washer open a few hours, to a day afterward (just depends on when I feel like closing it). And using something like this a couple of times a year might be worth it - the packaging advises monthly and that just seems overkill. Thanks for the info.

also, don't forget to leave the soap dispenser drawer open. don't want mold and mildew forming in there.

rid your washer of musty smells

1) if possible leave door open when not in use
2) run the TUB CLEAN or other comparable cycle about once every 4 to 6 weeks depending on your usage. I always throw in a cup or so of white vinegar or bleach, depending on what i have on hand when i do this.
3) follow manufacturer recommendations for cleaning. That means you need to find and read the manual. Some indicate wiping down the door gasket, others indicate cleaning a filter out every so often.
