Acer Predator X34P Curved Ultrawide 3440x1440 120Hz GSYNC IPS Gaming Monitor - $999 @ Newegg

This second generation of the Acer Predator X34 was just released in January. It has a handful of improvements over the original X34 (non "P") model such as native 100Hz with OC to 120Hz instead of 60Hz/100Hz, a more aggressive 1900R curve, thinner bezel, lighter weight, better OSD menu controls, presumably better QC, etc.

IMO this is the best ultrawide available, the only thing comparable in specs is the Alienware AW3418DW but this is a brand new model. I received mine yesterday after researching for weeks and it's stunning; pixel perfect and a significant improvement over my respectable U3415W. It's so new that reviews are still pretty scarce but here's one from Techspot [techspot.com].

Use promo code EMCPRPV44 for $100 off making it $999.99 at Newegg [newegg.com] with free shipping.

As lots of us have alerts set up for UW displays, this popped up. There are some things to consider about this model before you pul; the trigger:

TLDR: Unnoticeable difference between 100 and 120Hz, 1900R curve is arguably good for gaming and poor for production use, older panel has better performance out of the box (warm, poor color reproduction, poor greyscale), and if the X34P is tuned.. contrast ratio suffers coming in at 830:1 vs the older panel X34 achieving 1100:1. This is a noticeable difference.

For comparison, a tuned AW3418DW contrast is reported to come it at 850:1

Personally.. this aggressive of a curve took it out of contention for me as it makes photo and video editing less realistic. It was already a multi use display, the X34P just went a bit far IMO. I don't think anyone can speak to QC until more get out there, but from I've read read.. they still suffer similar light bleed and color uniformity issues. As OP mentioned the AW3418DW is another 120 and I'd personally recommend it over this LG if you're splitting hairs at this price point. Tthe Dell display does seem to have better QC then LG/ASUS displays ATM.. But this isn't hands on experience.

IMO the X34 refurb is still the buy here. You won't notice a difference between 100 and 120. If you want to do anything that requires accurate color reproduction the 3800R will serve you better.. At the end of the day, you just can't beat the price difference. I'd scoop up the X34 again and again every time it becomes available. Please keep it mind though.. refurbs won't be available forever!

I never suggest waiting for technology, but just keep in mind the native 200Hz 35" HDR panels will be making the rounds at some point this year.. No idea how close to $2,000 they'll be.. but if you're looking at UWs, it's something you should at least be aware of.

X34 bmiphz for 729.99 > Dell AW3418DW on sale for around $900 > Maybe an X34P at $1,000 if you require something NIB?

The Dell AW3418DW also comes with 3 years of advanced replacement for free. The Acer X34 and X34P come with 3 year warranty, but you will be required to pay the shipping cost to send it out.

This deal is very close to what I'm looking for, but probably will hold out till the true HDR panels come out.

Also a 16:9 aspect ratio is a must for me. Not sure why they're so rare in the enthusiast monitors.

If I plan to sit 10 feet away, is this a better option?

Edit. NVM, just realized this was a different aspect ratio Frown Looking for a UW 21:9 in a larger size like 49 inch...

Good notes, I would definitely agree the color is not as amazing (I have the AW at home right now). But, I will say, the overclock is not guaranteed. The biggest advantage for me on the AW is that 100hz is the native refresh. Plenty of reports out there of monitors like this that don't hit their OC, or start to flicker at the OC settings down the road.

I'm still debating keeping the AW right now, has some BLB that really annoyed me at first, but I'm starting to get used to it. The UW aspect is just awesome for games though... tough decision.

For the same price as the Alienware AW3418DW, I think the Alienware is the better buy due to it's better RMA Advanced Ship policy. I may be biased since I have it but they both use the same panel and both require some calibration out of the box. Have a dead pixel or too much blb, they'll ship you out a new one without you having to send in your monitor first.

Great to see competition and hopefully it'll push the prices down more.

The 200hz HDR monitors are still not scheduled to arrive to Q3-Q4 but have heard b/c they're VA panels that they'll have ghosting issues. Plus they'll be priced > $1500.

Honestly, I would like more curve. I use this monitor for software development. However, I would not pay $200 more for 20hz and more curve. As usual, the speaker sux. FYI, I own the X34. Also recommend getting a mount since the base is huge. By putting $15 mount, you get so much desk space back.

This is also native 100Hz with the option to OC to 120Hz, just like the AW.

I have the PG348Q and love it. I did try the AW3418Q and everything was nice about it but the contrast ratio was awful. Dark scenes in games were not good. The screen was calibrated but the picture was just not as nice as the Asus. Of course this is just my opinion.

Gaming-centric features, specifically the refresh rate and G-Sync. If you're asking this and you're a gamer, likely you need to try a monitor like this one Smilie

If not, just get a standard 60hz version and save the $$.
