I was getting ready to buy a amazon dot when I saw this offer and switched up the plan. I went with the fabric Echo 2 @ $84.99 and a black echo dot $ 39.99. My total with tax was $84.78 and should be delivered later today. If you select a wood grain model Echo l it is $20 more.

I had to chat with a rep because the $45 did not show up in my cart but she confirmed the offer is valid and is crediting my account for $47.70 (offer + tax). Hopefully it just shows up like it is supposed to in your cart and you get a free dot +$5 out of the deal.

About 10 minutes after placing the order I received an email from the Amazon chat rep that my account has been credited for $45. Should I fight them on the other $2.70 for tax?

Sure if you don't have anything to do at the moment.

If you choose the Echo+Dot combo bundle it comes to:
Order Summary
Items (2): $104.98
Shipping & handling: $0.00
Total before tax: $104.98
Estimated tax to be collected: $8.66
Order total: $113.64

Should that be a better base to ask for additional $45 .... if tax is corrected then it would result in total $64.93

(edit) Ahhh ok I get it, the $45 off deal was meant to apply for the combo bundle based on retail price (and is correctly reflected in the checkout) but if you add them to the cart separately you get individual discounted prices for the devices and then you try get the $45 from CS.... this will be YMMV I guess.

I did not try on the bundle. The offer said to place both items in the cart

yip, I editted my response as you were replying.... you're gaming the system.... it's YMMV if the CS will honor it as the deal is meant to be for the bundle.

In fact is says:
1. Add the offer to your cart by selecting Amazon Echo (2nd Generation) + Amazon Echo Dot (2nd Generation) on the product information page and add to your Shopping Cart.

Ie you're not meant to add them separately

I think I followed the rules precisely. Amazon posted an offer on the product page. The offer included a link to the terms of the offer. I met the terms by adding both products. When the offer did not show up per the instructions I inquired to verify I have the correct products in the cart and that the offer was still valid. When the customer service rep confirmed that all were correct I placed the order. Hopeful they correct the issue so that no one has to contact them and the $45 is automatic going forward.

bought and then chatted with amazon cs. they said since the promo is not publicly on the item's page, they would not honor. they said it's an inactive promotion and their policy doesn't allow them to honor inactive promotions that aren't reached via the product page.

they credited me $10 for the inconvenience.

Look mate I'm not arguing the fact that you got a deal, only to the point that, according to your word, you didn't follow the instructions "precisely" and hence everyone will have to contact CS to get the $45 at which point the CS may or may not honor it.

In detail on the product page it says:

Buy 2, save $45
Better together: Place the Echo (2nd Generation) +1 Echo Dot (2nd Generation) offer in your cart and automatically receive $45 off your order. Limited-time offer. Terms and conditions

and in the T&Cs page it specifically instructs one PRECISELY to:
1. Add the offer to your cart by selecting Amazon Echo (2nd Generation) + Amazon Echo Dot (2nd Generation) on the product information page and add to your Shopping Cart.

What you did was select Echo on one product page, then go to the dot product page and add the dot there. This is not PRECISELY what the instructions said.

Clearly one can see what Amazon intended as when you follow the instructions PRECISELY, you will see on the product page:
List Price: $149.98
Price: $104.98 Free Shipping for Prime Members
You Save: $45.00 (30%)
and also the shopping cart has the bundle for $104.98 which is PRECISELY $45 off their retail price.

There is a glitch. Amazon is working to fix it so don't contact chat support as it may trigger more problems.

This is a shady attempt to scam Amazon out of $45 extra dollars. The current price of adding the combo named "Echo + Echo Dot (Black/White)" to your cart is $104.98. The List price of the Echo is $99.99 and the list price of the Dot is $49.99. $99.99 + $49.99 = $149.98 and $149.98 - $45.00 = $104.98, which is the cost of the combo.
