Phones depreciate faster because new phones come out every year. Portable hard drive? Not so much demand.

yes ... this drive does not have a SATA connector on the inside that you can use. This is actually the first type of external drive I have seen missing the common sata feature and was surprised when I opened it looking to use it as an OS drive in my laptop. Instead there is a proprietary connector that gives output to usb 3.0.
