If I bought one at retail price and did return and rebuy at a store that is out of stock, will it ring up at their clearance price even though they're OOS?

On the other hand it's for the better - saw in WM new updated version BG5025/49 with Lithium-ion battery (!). Both WM and Amazon have it for $39

It is indeed. But they corrected the huge fault of previous models - battery, and at last install Lithium one.
It misses the trimmer head but I'm sure lots of people already have some model of a trimmer at hand, so I don't care at all as long as the main head is the same and there's a Li battery.
