Wonder if it's targeted?
When I click Apply Now it asks me to enter my MileagePlus number. Then it prepares my application and takes me to a landing start page that makes no mention of the 50k miles or $100 statement credit? Only shows:

Free first checked bag – save up to $100 per roundtrip (terms apply)
Priority boarding
2 United ClubSM one – time passes each anniversary
Earn 2 miles per $1 spent on tickets purchased from United and 1 mile per $1 spent on all other purchases

What is the Chase 5/24 rule?

I've had this card in the past (a couple of years ago). I canceled after the 1 year. Does anyone know if I can reapply, and/or could I do it in my wife's name this time? (The first time, the account was in my name, although she got a second card with her name.)

Never mind: Google informs me that the 5/24 rule is: If you have opened 5 or more new credit cards in the past 24 months (from any issuing bank), you will not be approved for a new credit card from Chase. ... Small business credit cards do not count towards your 5 cards.

Chase will deny your application if you have applied and approved for any 5 credit cards from any banks in the last 24 months, doesn't matter of those card are now closed or still open.
Also, if you already have this same United Explorer card in the last 24 months, you can not get it.

I believe you can - I was able to get the bonus twice (2 years passed between bonuses), but I don't know if they have changed the rule.

Your wife definitely can get it if she qualifies for the card.

To be more specific as far as churning the bonus- it must be more than 24 months since you last [B]received the bonus[B] on any specific Chase card in order to qualify for a new signup bonus on the same card.

Personally I'd wait for the 60k or higher. Possibly to be released in the summer time.

United has joined American or Delta when it comes to redeem points for flights. It will give you the worst flight options like early morning, late night or you will have to use double points. Domestic one way will be 12500 points and international 42500 but again they give you the worst option, earl morning, late night or 2 - 3 stops.

For 1 stop or non-stop and daytime flights, domestic will be 25000 points or 95k points for international. And ofcourse they are not available mostly on weekends.

Avoid if possible.

International flights are subject to international airline policy. Most allow 2 checked bags

I applied but got the "wait 30 days and we'll notify you by mail" response. I've had this card in the past, more than two years ago. I was surprised not to get instant approval - anyone else's experience similar, or are most getting instant approval?

You can call Chase recon number : 1-888-270-2127, the agent can tell you app status right away, sometimes they just need to confirm salary or address. Good luck !!!
