Addendum: kudos to SD member shredstick for finding it $285 shipped AC from this seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-Po...rmvSB=true

I'm not a big fan of these eBay coupons that are only valid at a small list of stores;
but sometimes you find a legitimate deal, against all odds.

This is the lowest I've seen the sx60 anywhere, including occasional deals on refurbs at Canon's website. The telephoto reach is unbelievable--the selling point of this camera---although at 50x or higher you really need a tripod, monopod, or some other convenient support to get a sharp picture.

No, it doesn't have a 1" sensor (it wouldn't have 65x of zoom if it did), nor a constant super-bright aperture. But both those features add a lot of cost and/or size/weight to the camera.

For features/reference, here's the Amazon link for the camera, where it sells for $479. Reviews average 4.5 stars: Link [amazon.com]

I haven't had my sx60 long enough to include a really nice picture taken with it; so below are a couple taken with my sx50. The two cameras are very similar in features and image quality.

Good camera--I was really impressed with the previous version (sx50). Too bad Canon hasn't released anything to best the Nikon P900 yet.

Excellent work! Reps for you for upping the deal.

I didn't bother searching for another seller since previous attempts to limit the search to vendors participating in the latest coupon promotion never seemed to work for me...

I've owned both the sx50 and the P900. Definitely okay image quality in a compact package. Good for wildlife photography when subjects are still and the sun is out. DSLRs still yield much higher quality shots and can do birds in flight, but reaching that far is quite pricey in lenses (600mm + tele). The sx50 can be hacked via chdk if you'd like to set up a remote photography rig.

2/13 update: New eBay Bucks promo started today; may be targeted so YMMV. Get an additional 8% back in eBay Bucks, no minimum purchase. If you're willing to pretend that eBay Bucks = money, drops the price on this deal to around $261. Hot.

I have the SX50 and am quite happy with it for what it is. It is quite possible to get sharp pictures handheld at full zoom, with practice and care in bright light. It's not a DSLR and not good for low light (at least without a tripod and a still subject) or birds in flight, but what it offers in a relatively small, light package is impressive and quite useful.

I would say no.
unless you need videos of something from far away.

the canon G9x or G7x are more popular for youtube purpose. good stabilization and large sensor for better image overall and better night/low light.

g9x from conon refurbished is around same price as this and but g9x mark2 is around $350.

Good price for a new SX60.

but IMHO the SX50 have better image quality. (along with many people from the DPreview forum)

I had the SX50 and SX60 and did some comparison
http://geniv.com/download/SX50vsSX60_DPR/

the SX50 is smaller and lighter.
the SX60 is better at
- seems faster in terms of menu
- 16mp vs 12mp of the SX50
- higher resoolution lcd screen and electronic view finder
- 10x more zoom at 60x

I end up returning the SX60 and kept my trusty SX50 since the end result (image quality) is better on the SX50.

for such a small sensor size 16mp is too much anyway and realistically 60 is not much more than 50x anyway. I never got into a situtation where I say.. I wish I had 60x ..

With that said you can score a refurbished SX50 for about $150 on the canon site. IMHO that is a way better value.

OK, sold, but I can't find a refurb SX50 for $150. Does it get discounted to that often? Can I rely on a deal alert to catch it?

Just keep deal alert on canon refurbished.
Any coupon on refurbished should work on the sx50 also

I found new d3400 for 360$ but there's no Nikon USA warranty.. I don't know if it's better to buy a refurbished one from an authorized Nikon dealer.
