Just my .02: Harbor Freight clamps have treated me well for years now. I've built cabinets, tables, workbenches, barstools, etc with no issues using their bar and pipe clamps.

My advice to any aspiring woodworkers: go to HF's website and look at the star ratings of all of their clamps, then buy 4 of anything highly rated when they go on sale. HF always has coupons, and regularly has sales (google "harbor freight coupon" and check their ads). Spend your money on good power tools, save it on clamps. These are better, but not so much so that they justify the price difference IMHO.

I'd recommend picking up some of the clamps from harbor freight instead. Still significantly cheaper than these and you're not spending a fortune to get into the hobby to see if it's something you want to stick with, and if so, then buy the more expensive clamps.

The harbor freight parallel clamps and quick release bar clamps are clamps that I still use as a serious hobbyist. Stay away from their ratcheting clamps, though. Have never had a good experience with their brand of those.

Advice: Stop looking for a reason to buy stuff you dont need. If you dont know what it's for you probably dont need it. Take it from a fellow slickdealer that already has so much stuff he will never use.

That 10 pack is looking like a pretty good way to start a clamp collection

These prices are about 50% more than their previous sales. I would wait if you didn't need these. The 10-pack of bar clamps were about $100 a few months ago.

Good call, looks like <= $100 is the price to wait out for.

Seems like a pretty good deal for the vise. It's one of those things I always wish I had when I needed it, but never bought. I may pull the trigger on this one.

Yea the HF ratchet clamps (quick-grip style) are pure garbage. Get Irwins or theres a Swedish brand that is fantastic, especially since all of Irwin's production is from China these days. Even the new Dewalt ones were hit and miss in terms of quality.

Same goes for C-clamps. I've stopped buying C-clamps new and only get old ones from garage sales and the like. They're usually a buck or two and they're considerably stronger than the ones you can buy now (short of expensive US made ones).

That all said, the HF pipe clamps are stellar.

I picked up the Yost FSV-5 5" vise for $105.85 and M7WW 7" woodworking vise for $38.47 from Amazon back in December. Both significantly higher today. Be cautious if this deal is an impulse buy for you.

I too picked up the Yost FSV-5 ($98) via the Amazon Warehouse (there was absolutely nothing wrong with the vise, still seemed in original packing and never removed). I LOVE this vise and use it frequently. Put a Camel alert for it and pick it up cheap.

What's the difference between the 4 inch listed here for $35 and the lv-4 at $26?
