WARNING: This is not a medical product.
If knowing your pulse rate is critical to your health, you need to have your pulse taken by a medical professional. Heart Rate Monitor is not intended to diagnose, prevent or treat any condition, or to be a substitute for professional medical care. Measurements and statistics are intended for informational and educational purposes only, to support general health and wellness. The Heart Rate Monitor app has not been tested with individuals with health conditions and has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

EASY TO USE
* Place and lightly hold your (index) finger against the back camera lens and flashlight
* Do not press too hard, otherwise blood circulation will be altered and the results could be
affected
* When using a smartphone or tablet without a LED flashlight, be sure to take the measurement in a well-lit area (bright daylight works best)
* Remain calm and try not to move too much during the measurement, as this can compromise measurement accuracy
* Do not measure with cold fingers when the blood circulation is poor

EFFICIENT ANALYSIS
Your resting heart rate varies depending on your age and training level. A very fit and athletic person has a lower resting HR than someone who's hardly active. Eager to know if your fitness level has improved? Measure your heart rate on a regular basis and monitor the progress of your resting heart rate.

Download the Runtastic Heart Rate PRO App today, check your heart rate regularly and show your friends how cool & calm you remain even when in a seemingly stressful situation!

This app only uses the camera to measure HR. I was hoping it would be able to use the heart rate data from my Android Wear device, but there are no options or settings for that.

How exactly is my smartphone camera able to accurately measure my heart rate?

There was a time when Runtastic was a good running app. Now they made an app to count to ten.

Runtastic "Pro" apps are a joke... Full of annoying reminders trying to get you to subscribe to their various services.

Used twice then immediately uninstalled. Bio-sensors on my Note 8 are way better than this app.

Because it's free. Even if you hate it, you have only wasted your time.

You put your finger over the lens while it turns your flashlight LED on. The camera can pick up the slight changes in blood flow that correspond to pulse. It's accurate, though it's slow (I presume because readings taken this way are noisy).

Similar to the way smart watches do it. It turns on your flash for light, then uses the camera to measure the change in color of your finger every time your heart beats. You finger gets a little redder during a heartbeat because there's more blood flowing through. Difficult to see by eye, but a camera can measure it pretty easily.

Not sure what you mean Smilie?

iOS, Android, both?

Personally I'm glad to have found this, because the app I've had installed for a while "Heart Rate Free" (Developer: Azumio) has turned into an ad-infested, borderline unusable piece of garbage.

To be fair I have a ShitBit Charge 2 as well as a Polar M400 with a chest strap... but an application like this is fun to use once in a while. Also useful for people who don't wear some sort of device that measures HR continuously...

Only stupid thing is that is requires an account. But no worries, I'll use ProtonMail or another anonymized email address for it. Fück them if they want to associate my data with me nodSmilie.
