Just FYI, it's an import so no warranty. Refurb is available here: https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/e...efurbished for $100.79 plus tax (free shipping) and that one includes 1 year warranty. Just for comparison.

I bought the refurb direct from Canon last time it was on sale. Lens looks and performs like new.

It's fantastic and I can't believe it was <$100 after I look at photos.

Unless you are a really high end professional, justifying the jump to the 50mm 1.2L is nearly impossible. Previously I had the 50mm f1.4 USM but I sold it, and bought the STM. The focus on the USM is janky, and known to fail.

I would love to own the 50 mm 1.2L but that's for down the road as I just picked up the 85 mm 1.4L which is the most amazing lens I've ever owned.

I own both the 50 mm 1.4 and the 50 mm 1.8 STM. Both are great. I use both and don't have a preference. The 1.4 is better for low light of course. the 1.8 is the better value because it's so cheap. but if you didn't know the prices, I don't think the 1.8 would outright win.

I found the hard way after getting a full frame 5DMK3 and it work perfectly: kept like 95% of shots. On my T2i and T3i (cropped sensor), the AF is either back or front focus for 50mm f1.4 USM: kept only like 20% of shots. I think it is a firmware issue on the lens or the cropped sensor cameras.

Canon has not refused warranty service until now on grey market items (as I understand). However that may not be necessarily continued. Having said that for item less than $100 that is worth a shot, considering the likelihood of needing that warranty service within a year is very less. Also you can use CC to cover it if need be.

I bought the Yongnuo 50mm 1.8 from Amazon last month for my T6 and I and surprised and please with what it can do. Definitely a better deal at half the price unless you really want to pixel-peep.
Though, i have never used the Canon variant for an actual comparison.

There are tons of videos on youtube by professionals comparing these two lenses.

Spoiler: none of the reviews suggested significant quality issues to non professional naked eyes. Thats good enough for me to save some money.

I tried both Yongnuo and Canon 50mm in my photography class. The Yongnuo copy was amazingly good. My only problem with it is that it's all plastic. Just don't drop it.

Edit: The Canon is plastic too. But it feels a bit more sturdy.
