I'm calling BS on this. Show me a bill of materials for an equivalent Ryzen system with Windows license for $260.

$260 shipped isn't a bad deal for a kid/mom complete computer. It can do lightweight gaming.

I wouldn't count on HP to offer bios updates for Ryzen AM4 APUs though... if they did that would be awesome. But I doubt it, they'll want you to buy a new box instead.

This is correct. The cheapest RR APU is the Ryzen 3 2200G for $100. $50 for a cheapo AM4 motherboard. $75+ for 8gb ram. $40 for a 1tb hard drive. We're at $265 right there and no case/power supply/windows license/keyboard/mouse etc. Add another $150-200 for those items. Now w're closer to $500. Even without a Win 10 license it's still $400.

is this good enough to surf web opening 10 Chrome browser? I don't game but the desktop that I've keeps humming and slowing things down with 10/12 different Chrome browser opened along with MS Word and some music playing in the background.

Also, what's the equivalent of this CPU in Intel?

Yeah, you could game on this one at 720p low quality settings. You could actually get decent gaming experience in e sports titles such as rocket league and cs go and overwatch, dota2, lol etc.

This will work fine for a basic desktop experience. It is hard to compare it with ant Intel processor directly but you could compare passmark scores for an indirect comparison. This is quad-core so it compares to i5, but with better graphics than Intel but lesser horse power through put.

While I wouldn't call this a gaming pc by any means it isn't a bad system. Unlike a lot of vendor custom hardware, this system actually has upgrade options.

It has an empty pcie 16x socket ready for a discrete graphics cards, an open ram slot and two sata sockets with only one drive already attached. With some research you can spend a little more down the line and get respectable gaming performance.

Not a bad little basic system for the price.

This can game better then a standalone Intel chip, but yeah, the new Amd chips are way better.

It'd much slower then a current gen i5, I'd say it's closer to a pentium, it's the old excavator cores not summit ridge/ryzen.

How much of an upgrade is the one in the thread over this old desktop I have ( https://m.newegg.com/products/N82E16883103927 )?
