Does anyone have experience with these filters over the "generic" filters?

Or those moisture filters to help with dry air?

reviews are very hit or miss on this.....some love them, others hate them.

Pass.....too many complaints of restricting airflow.

these have gone on sale a few times over the past few months at home depot. users of the product (See previous threads) have generally had negative reviews on them, mostly referring to how flimsy and cheaply made the product is.

if you are looking for better filters, check out Nordic Pure or Flanders filters.

Yup. I saw these expensive filters on clearance at my home Depot a year or 2 ago so I bought a whole bunch. Used them for a year or so and noticed the furnace was shutting down and starting back up when it shouldn't. Not sure how long this was going on for, but I switched back to the cheapo fiberglass filters because I figured flow was getting too restricted. I thought things were all good with the cheapo filters until much later I realized flame was cutting in and out (about a minute or 2 on, 1 minute off) but fan was staying on. This probably was going on for a while but I didn't realize it. Got a friend of the neighbors, who is an HVAC guy, to check it out. He said the high temp limit switch was worn out and tripping at too low of a temp. Likely because the tight filters restricted airflow, causing temp to increase triggering the limit switch. Do this for too long and switch wears out and cuts on when it shouldn't, which is why flame was cutting in and out with the cheapo filters. HVAC guy called these filters furnace killers.

Anyways, I bought a new high temp switch and replaced it and everything is all good now.

CSB, I know, but that was my experience with the "nice" filters and something similar may happen to you.

I highly reccomend getting these instead, far better for your HVAC system and they will perform just as good for less $...

Rheem Basic Household Pleated FPR 4 Air Filter (3-Pack) for $8.97 (~$3 per filter)

These are good for cutting to fit in room air purifier. I have been using these for a couple of years and they do the job. Not using these for HVAC.

Any other options you would recommend? These aren't available to purchase or ship in the north Texas area.

From the review I read, the restriction came as the filter became dirty after a few weeks. Sounds like the filters work fine and that persons home is just dirty as hell.

These are only merv 8. I used Up to merv 13 with no issues for a long time. I Highly doubt you are restricting airflow due to these.

Unless you leave them in too long. They trap more crap than your $1 filters and thats a good thing, so you also need to check and change them more. Or then u will restrict airflow.

If its causing ur system issues, then your house is dusty or u have pets or smoke etc and shld be thrilled this is catching it. Not buying cheaper far less efficient filters!!

At this price, buy these and change them every 2-4 weeks, not 2-3 months. And be happy to have cleaner air.

Dont buy less filtration than merv 8 just so u dont need to change them more often (because they work good!?!!)

More or less, exactly.

But Dont have to be dirty people, a pet, smoker, not dusting multiple times per week, dirty polluted air like i have in ny / nj ...
just cause u dont smell it dont mean the airs clean.

3 months in a bubble maybe, most cities u need to change good filters in a month or less. Add pets and high pollen and alot of airbornes and u shld be chsnging them every 2-8 weeks topps depending in lots of environmentals

And they never look dirty (unless u go 2-3+ monrhs) but if i take a used Filter 2-3 weeks and hold near a brand new then u can clearly see its not near pure white anymore Smilie
