As someone who wore lots of Express business casual clothes for several years, I can attest to the sh*tty quality of these clothes.

My recommendation: wait for Banana Republic sales, which happen all the time, and pay similar prices for much higher quality. I swear by BR's "non-iron" dress shirts; they're thicker and requires minimal effort to maintain (haven't ironed my dress shirts in years).

Good to know. I was about to drop some money on Express business casual wear. Any recommendations for dress socks? Does BR make good dress pants too?

Express clothing for women is very good and holds up well. Portofino shirts are excellent and the dress pants (columnist, etc.) as well, and require minimal to no ironing.

I've had no problems with Express.

Express quality has taken a big nosedive IMO.

If everything is on sale, is anything really on sale?

BR dress pants are decent and not great, but it's still significantly better than Express pants. I've owned about two dozen Express dress pants, both the "higher quality" ones and the regular quality ones (don't remember the names, like Producer or whatever), and they were all mediocre quality.

At one point, Express was my go-to store for work clothes (business casual), but since I was gifted a couple of non-iron BR dress shirts, I completely replaced my Express wardrobe with BR. The quality is immediately noticeable, and over the years, I've also noticed that BR prices are about the same.

Both BR and Express follow similar strategies: over-inflate the "regular" prices and have 50% off sales regularly (possibly monthly?). When you find a good BR sale, you can easily buy their non-iron dress shirts for $15-20, which is cheaper or equal to the best Express sales.

I had no problems with Express clothes either, but the value simply isn't there in terms of price and quality. For the same price, you can be significantly better quality.

Example: nothing's wrong with owning a TCL branded TV, but why would anyone want to buy a TCL branded TV if they can get a higher quality Samsung for the same price (or cheaper)?

I believe there are multiple better $25 men's dress shirts than Express. In my multiple posts in this thread, I mentioned BR. You can go back and read it for more detail.

Unfortunately I find BR clothing to be too boxy. I do find the quality to be higher, but it just doesn't fit as well as Express.
