This Laview system @$499 has been as low as $400 in early 2017 on amazon. That would have been a good deal. Many complain of Laview support if that is pertinent to you.

Ignore claims of night vision ranges. Often not accurately represented.
Ignore claims of color night vision - marketing gimmick.

In the market finally. Not familiar enough to know if this is a great deal or not. Anybody able to offer some insight? Matt2000?

The compression is an older standard- not a deal breaker.

Looking at the specs I don't see them quoting performance levels when all cameras are connected. Most will list camera as 4mp but the DVR/nvr often can't handle all channels at 4mp

it's an ok deal. I'd wager the costco one at 699 is better if u r just starting out. the cheap poe sets avg around 80ish per camera, which, imho, is a bit much for what you get (2MP hiks from quickly looking at specs). Note I'm ignoring the NVR in calculating per camera cost as some will use something like blue iris instead and never use the NVR.

I think i picked up a similar package a few years back from newegg (so no tax for some vs tax for all at home depot) with 6 cameras at 399 which i thought was a very good deal to help fill out some areas cheaply.

if you are just starting out you need to figure out what you want to accomplish. inside/outside, 2 way audio or not, locations and how IR can be affected etc

The guy installing my cameras recommended dome cameras because you can't tamper with them and he says he has seen where someone trying to get inside will move the bullet cameras out of the way. I bought the Costco 4k Lorex set that comes with bullet cameras because I couldn't find a dome set with NVR on sale.

I had some concerns about LaView from what I read about their customer support but getting 6 domes would be nice. I'm tempted to return the Costco set for this but I'm unsure if bullet vs. dome really matters that much and if LaView really is that much worse than Lorex with customer support.

New to the world of residential security. I'm looking for a good setup need to cover a big house was thinking 1 in front 1 in back and 1 in each side. Maybe throw a couple inside? Seems like a pretty good deal. I had a security advisor come over and he quoted me 1k to put up one Axis camera so I showed him the door and never called him back lol. Axis is obviously top level stuff but I don't need all that much just enough to let people know to stay away from my house. I've been looking for a few weeks now haven't found any good deals until this popped up.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on this or waiting for another deal from Newegg. 6 cameras with 2 - 2tb hdd or 4
cameras with no hd for ~200 less. Guess I have a few hours to think about it.

Hi Copperhed51,

Good to see a nice long list of security camera deals here, I'll take a closer look at this shortly.

Thanks Impact-Vector,

For those wondering..
H.264 - older compression, uses less processing power ( Blue Iris still using this - and it's a good standard )
H.265 - newer compression ( reduces storage space more ), however uses more processing power - not everything has caught up with this yet.

As Impact points out - this should not be a deal beaker today.

Indeed psumarsh,

SO for those new and just tuning in:
Use the Costco 6x 4K camera + NVR 2/8 PoE ports and 1x 2TB HDD as your comparison point.

Thanks to folks here sharing their experiences on it we have lots more knowledge and the deal from Costco is going on for awhile so you don't have to jump right away on it.

Hi Kablo0ey,

Remember to watch those K and MP closely - often I've seen 4K rated NVRs ( able to have 4K cameras streams ) combined with 4MP cameras.

Hi Shouthouse,

I believe it maybe coax - if you can afford a better kit I would recommend it.

I'll take a closer look in a bit.

Wireless, hate cables
Hi Jonlive.

If you want a reliable setup wired is the way to go for security cameras.

Reliable: => thus wired

Options:
Even Less Reliable ----- Less Reliable ---- Reliable
Wire Free ( battery operated, wifi ) - WiFi - Wired

Less Relilable ---- More Reliable
Cloud only storage, no local storage ---- wifi to storage device ---- Local storage on camera, storage via wire to LAN device ( NVR, NAS, Blue Iris PC ) and/or wired directly to DVR/NVR

Less Reliable ---- Most Reliable
Video record on Motion Detection --- Video record 24x7 w/option to use motion detection as option to highlight potential activity.

Hi E-Diddy,

Dome cameras can really SUCK outdoors. Thus the folks at ipcamtalk are ALWAYS recommending not to install domes outdoors. ( internal IR lights reflect back in to the lens, UV exposure degrades dome overtime,... )

Yes the dome does protect the unit from being moved.. but lets face it, a $3 can a spray paint and no camera can stop that.

Given a choice of Bullet vs Dome outdoors - I would go bullet - the only exception is by your front door / entrance which you keep lighted at night and you can keep the dome camera on color around the clock ( to keep the IR lights off )

HI ZeusyZeus,

The most important thing you can do is plan your camera placement and needs.

Thus:
Take your time to figure this out a bit - I'd recommend doing your research first, and skipping this deal for now.

This is the current best value deal going on right now:
https://slickdeals.net/f/11221015-lorex-8ch-4k-hd-nvr-6-bullet-camera-security-system-2tb-699-starting-2-8-costco

You MAY need more than 6-8 cameras, so take some time to wrap your head around this.

I've gather notes and included the great information which has been shared here and at ipcamtalk in the wiki's below:

https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99

Thank you for the amazing response Matt. I had a security installer come by and he pretty much gave me his suggestions after he had asked how many cameras I want. It would be safe to say something like 4 outdoor 2 indoor maybe 3-4 indoor (can't go wrong with more right). He was trying to push Axis cameras on me and told him deck no. He tried charging me 1k for 1 camera and a NVR with installation lol. Considering going with the 4mp bundles the quality is just better all around. If only I could get two way audio with the indoor cameras on the same NVR that would be amazing.

HI ZeusyZeus,

Axis! Now those have a great reputation ... however at 1k per camera.. ouch!!

Are you in a hurry to setup security cameras? ( i.e. are you experiences any threats right now? )
