2015 Chromebook. It's really big and heavy but a tank of a machine. I got mine refurbished 3 years ago from Acer. Currently $160 on the Acer site [acerrecertified.com]. 14,200 Octane is about 40-50% faster than most current gen chromebooks. Again it's a great machine as long as you understand how big and heavy it is.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Perfect virus/trouble free machine for those that don't need Windows. These are also really nice for the technically challenged. Gave a Chromebook to my elderly Rents about 3 years ago because of constant windows problems and I haven't heard a peep out of them since. Like sd69 said, this Chromebook is lightning fast with a nice screen and upward firing speakers. Most basic users don't realize a Chromebook would work great for them. Only catch is that Google Cloud Print can be a little frustrating at times.

Recently bought Acer 15 chromebook fr costco for same price. My parents are super happy w the fast startup and ease of use. They basically use chrome to browse internet and watch YouTube video. That cheap alternative pc ... chromebook
Fit their needs prefertly. I highly recommend. The only downside is they have to enter password to start ur system (bypass password log in is an option on widows operation system.. but not chromebook)... unless u log In as guest....

I literally keep a few extra chromebooks around to hand out to family and friends. As anyone in tech knows you become the "IT guy" that all your family and friends turn to. Having spent endless hours/days "fixing" machines that have hardware/virus issues I've found it much easier and cheaper to simply hand them a chromebook. There are very few application scenarios now that can't be handled in a browser and most newer chromebooks can also run android apps.

The one that is on sale at Costco is 32GB storage.... not to mention Costco has better warranty. Wouldn't that be better buy than this? Just need one for kids to do basic homework, surfing and YouTube etc.
Here is the one at Costco as posted in another deal:

I use my Chromebook 99.999% of the time now. My almost 10 year old windows desktop sits under my bed unused.

You don't need touch for the apps to work.
Sometimes I actually prefer the mouse over the touch screen anyways on some apps.
