Hey CMV, if you want to cut small pieces of metal accurately, consider an OEM or knock off "flex shaft attachment" or extender. It gives you much better control. Look specifically for one with a bit holder at the end that fits comfortably in your hand (if ordering online, estimating diameters is easy enough).

I used to do a lot of precision metal cutting professionally (crowns, bridges, metal clasps for dental work) and this $20 flex shaft accessory setup sort of emulates about a $500 rig I would use in the shop. I think foot speed controls are available, too.

Hope that helps. If you need more details, feel free to PM me. I still regularly use tools from those days.

These are easier to lock in without having to mess with the screw. They are also a bit thicker so they won't break as easily. I highly recommend these over the ones you linked. Once you use these you won't want anything else.

was going to buy the mandrel at $10 which is also now $4.19, so for about $3 more you get 5 cutoff wheels, so bought this.

Thanks. I needed something to cut some small pieces of metal accurately and this looks like the ticket.

On the off chance anyone knows, will this work fine with that $20 WENS rotary tool Amazon sells? There was some talk about collet sizes in the reviews on that. I guess I can just order some collets on eBay if it doesn't fit right.

Any reason for me to buy this set as well?

But the easy lock/release feature would only be useful for me when using these cut off wheels. If I want to use any of my other owned "non-easy" attachments I'll have to mess with the screw anyway, no?

Maybe I'm missing the benefit here? I guess if you only use cut off wheels, are constantly breaking/replacing them, or already own or plan to invest in more easy lock/release attachments this makes sense.
