If you don't want/need Windows Ink, or an IR Webcam for windows hello... I'd say oh yeah... Much better laptop... Certainly faster...

the correct answer to this question is... depends....

the amd one has better graphics chip which will help with video encoding/decoding/transcoding as well as anything with slight graphics

the intel one... should by all accounts due to the hyperthreading and its a quad core so 8 threads versus 4.... easily beat out the amd in processor intensive programs

also don't believe in all the marketing for the intel chip - 8th gen (not really... its a kaby lake architecture processor .. not coffee lake) and the other issue i have with the marketing is it is not exactly 40 percent increase... if there is 40 percent it would most likely have to do mainly that the previous generation at this point was dual core instead of quad core (thank god for amd being competitive again)

oh also.. if you don't replace the hard drive... the amd one may feel faster in certain aspects due to 7200 rpm hard drive versus 5400

P.S. anyone getting these small laptops.. one suggestion i will make is be sure the ram configuration for the laptop is always at least 2 dimms filled to take advantage of the dual channel memory... if there is not two sticks or any way to put a second stick of ram into the product then DO NOT BUY IT as it will perform poorly compared to most other machines in any price range (other than free that is)

I can't speak as to the "slickness" of this deal (although it seems a bit high), but I can speak to this laptop in general. I got tired of fixing my mom's old Frankenstein workstation, so I went to Best Buy to find a decent laptop that came with built-in restore functionality and/or media. (I figured this would get me at least 3 hours of my time back at holiday family get togethers.) After testing nearly every model on the floor, I finally ended up with an HP Envy x360. It just felt must more "solid" and durable than other models at this price point. It was an i5, which should run decent in a laptop, but it felt unusually sluggish. Once I replaced the SATA drive with a smaller SSD, the thing was an absolute rockstar! I was so impressed, about 6 months later when my wife's computer finally crapped out, I went straight to Best Buy to buy the latest model of this laptop that was already configured with an SSD. So far she completely loves it, and that alone says something. (She can be a bit of a Diva when it comes to her computing needs.)

TLDR - well built laptop, but will probably run like wolf cookies unless you replace the hard drive with an SSD. Also, wife is a Diva.
