Sterling Blue or Black available for $299.99. Another good option if you don't want to go the Google Fi promo route and cheaper than on Amazon or anywhere else I've seen. Compatible with Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and Google FI.

Unfortunately the student discount does not stack.

Note to folks that this is a different version than the one sold by Google Fi. The Google Fi version has a "clean" version of Android (Android One). The one from this deal has whatever regular Android version Moto is sticking on it. Additionally this one has built in Amazon Alexa. It has an app called "Moto Alexa" that basically makes your phone function like an Amazon Echo device. That is NOT a feature on the Google Fi Android One version of the Moto X4.

Both versions work with Google Fi.

Anyway, these may be selling points (or negative points) for some people on these two similar but different versions of the same phone.

So which one would you go with? Hard for me to decide.

Also the same price at Best Buy. I just ordered an open box like new one for $264. Just another option.

If you value updates, the Project Fi (Android One) version would likely be the better buy. Motorola is sketchy when it comes to updates, but for the Android One variant, the following is promised: "With moto x4 Android One, you'll receive at least two years of OS upgrade."

Also, that version got the Oreo update back in December. Moto's regular unlocked X4 got Oreo around the end of January.

I bought my sister a G5 Plus and while it does have some Moto enhancements, it's for all intents and purposes "clean". I played with it a bit while setting it up and it's very smooth and very little in the way of apps. Updates are not as fast as the Android One but, I've found them to be very acceptable compared to Samsung/LG.

Also, I don't believe this one has Alexa built in from what I'm reading. You/d have to buy it from Amazon for that feature.

Edit: And to be clear, the Moto enhancements I saw were mostly around Moto gestures which I believe even the Android One version has. I think software wise they are the same except that Android One may get them sooner. I'd also be curious if you could just flash the Android One firmware over.

Here is a little bit that I found of differences:

Quote :
Like all Motorola phones these days, the Moto X4 ships with a pure Android experience along with some on-top tweaks that add value (like Moto Display, Actions, and Voice). The Android One version isn't all that different either. In fact, the only noticeable differences are the missing Moto Voice and Key options from within the Moto app on the Android One model, no option for fingerprint navigation, different phone apps, and a different color to the app drawer. Otherwise, you've got Moto's custom clock widget, the Moto Display and Actions, and clean Android 7.1.1 on both.
So very minor from the looks of it.

Specs are not that great. What's the advantage over something like the G5S, $100 less?

Way better network connectivity (LTE Cat 11 - 3x CA), water/dust proof (ip68), better front and back camera (4k), digital compass, NFC, USB C, IPS display, and Wifi AC.

Would the Fi receive faster updates?
